The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust now got off the phone with MFM!
He sounds great. No shortness of breath, and no wheezing.
He did say that getting up to use the restroom makes him short of breath, though.
He greatly appreciates all the vibes...
Before he'd even been given any medication, he felt better......and he's sure it was the vibes!
He doesn't expect to be there very long, probably a couple of days.
He loves all of you!

Hope you get better soon, MFM!

(53,410 posts)There are some people in DU that personify some aspect or other of it. Just like a good politician they dominate the messages. MSM is one of them. One of a kind.

(149,762 posts)Tonight, MFM is in the Intensive Care Unit because he was in a long episode of atrial fib/flutter from last night.
They wanted to monitor him more closely, so into the ICU he went.
Late this afternoon he converted to a normal heart rhythm spontaneously. He's feeling well, and expects to be transferred out to some other floor tomorrow, Sunday.
I told him all your good wishes and vibes, and he was extremely appreciative!
Keep those vibes coming, folks! They're working!

(55,027 posts)I tried to call and got somebody who was really out of it and they hung up on me - I still don't know if that was him, I don't think so - can you PM me if he has a new direct phone number?
When I tried the front dest they sent me to the floor and they said ICU and I got confused because I didn;t think that was where he was. Now I see - something happened and they moved him.
Oh man. Should I call again tonight or wait until morning?

Thankful that he went to the hospital...
I honestly didn't think that there was something else wrong....
He's been through way too much...
And yet... he gives us all he's got.
Love you MFM.....
Awaiting your return...

(55,027 posts)I talked to MFM this morning while I was out running errands, he was still in ICU, but only becasue of no regular rooms available, the heart rythym thing seems to have resoved itself and he definitley wanted me to pass on his thanks and greetings to everybody. He thinks he woll be out in another day or so and he sure sounds fine so again, I am glad they are maybe being a little over-cautious after what happened (more than once!) last year.
I bet he is starting to jones for the internet by now. If it looks like there is going to be a longer stay I will try to get in and get his laptop to him, but knock on wood, he should be out of there pretty fast.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,762 posts)I'm going to call him very shortly.
Glad you know where he is......it'll save me from trying to find him!
Kali
(55,027 posts)who knows where they have him now? ask him about the hasmat guy
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,762 posts)I will ask.........hazmat???
elleng
(131,291 posts)AND for MFM!!!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,762 posts)CaliforniaPeggy
(149,762 posts)Well! Another fun and productive call with MFM!
The hazmat? Well........he used the bedside commode.........and when the nurse came in to empty it, he was dressed in a surgical gown, surgical gloves, AND one of those upward-facing plastic face masks, along with a surgical cap!
MFM started laughing and asked did they really need to call in the EPA?
He didn't think the nurse got it.
Most importantly: He will most likely be going home tomorrow! He is well, the UTI is resolved, and his heart rhythm very stable. They did an echocardiogram today, and it looked good.
So.......
Vibes work!
elleng
(131,291 posts)Glad things resolved, and HOPE heart thing really is OK.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,762 posts)I do believe (based on what he's told me and how he sounds) that the heart thing is resolved.
He described some of the medications he's on, and their schedule, and it all sounds very good!

(131,291 posts)Another subject: How's your knee doing? I have a friend who needs knee work, and I'm interested to know, if he ever has it done, about recovery process.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,762 posts)It's been 3 months now.
I don't have my full flexibility back and probably won't for some time.......if ever. My progress is glacial! It is a major surgery, and I know I didn't realize just how major until I was in recovery.
I am glad I did it. The pain I was enduring was getting pretty bad. I still have some little (I call them lightning bolts!) stabby pains but they are not as frequent now as they were earlier.
Hope this helps!
elleng
(131,291 posts)And were able/unable to climb stairs etc when?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,762 posts)They said I was ready to go home after they had taught me to go up and down the stairs. It was EASY! But the going was slow...
I had zero problems learning stairs. You just go one foot at a time, the way you do it when you're little and just learning to walk.
When I got home, I had PT at home. The PT guy came to the house 3 times a week, and it was great.
After he told me there was nothing else he could teach me, and that I was doing fantastically well, (10 visits!) I continued to do those exercises myself.
I'm still doing them.

(55,027 posts)good news bad news good news meh news and MOAR VIBZ PLZ
Talked to MFM this evening. He was still a little buzzed from a procedure he had done today. Yesterday he had an external ultrasound of his heart and they thought they saw something, so doday he had an internal ultrasound (he says he is feeling empty and lonely now that it is over )
there MAY be a leakage problem with the valve he got last year
he will know more tomorrow, could mean some more cutting or it may mean just watching for a while
if they decide to watch he may go home tomorrow - he is doing pretty well, the UTI is under control or gone and they got him to a regular room sometime today.
SO...he is kind of hoping for continued vibes but says not to tell you the news was THAT bad. He is a little disappointed they may need to cut him open again, but he says he made it last time he will get through it again.
He was in good spirits (or just stoned) cracking various MFM-type jokes - has a real bathroom now, so you can imagine
send him those patented lounge vibes...

(55,027 posts)(I'm gun shy after that second day - getting somebody in his old room LOL)
He was sounding pretty drowsy but knew you might have your poetry reading tonight so if you want to wait until morning, I am sure that will be fine. Otherwise just go through the main number - I didn't even get what floor he is on now...
