I'm not religious, but there are angels on earth.

My wife and I were at the medical marijuana dispensary, she's in a wheelchair. We got into a conversation with a man and his wife. Nice people. When he heard that my disabled Navy veteran wife didn't have a wheelchair ramp outside our front door he got livid.

"They treat our veterans like shit." he said. Then he volunteered to build her a ramp. We exchanged numbers thinking, what a nice man. His wife was just as lovely. We didn't really expect anything seeing as how nothing in life is free and we thought he was just making pleasantries.

To make a long story short, he is at my house right now with his wife and he is making good on his word. Not some fly by night ramp either, a good sturdy one that is cemented in. Paid for all the elements out of his own pocket and won't take a dime from us.

Clint and his lovely wife Shelly have restored my faith in humanity. I had to share this feel good story in this day and age. People, pay it forward. Do a kindness for someone. Karma is real and it can either be a bitch or a blessing.

I'm not religious, but very thankful for this blessing.

1. Super! He's probably getting as good a feeling about that ramp as you.

His good turn will be rewarded.

2. Damn good for nothing stoners...

Kidding of course. (Stoned a little now on a nice indica vape of Dos I Dos myself right now). I love chatting up the people at the dispensary. It's a VERY eclectic mix of humans.

Good on y'all. What are you enjoying from the marijuana mart tonight?

5. I know, right.

Stoners unite. I'm not enjoying anything from the marijuana mart right now cause I'm working. But I'm quite sure they are smoking out.

This man is toiling in 100 degree weather for her. I am bowled over and so thankful. He's not even a vet, has a bad back and had his house destroyed during hurricane Michael, but he is out there helping others. I'm so grateful, he just doesn't even know.

21. Me too.

I really needed to hear something like this. I just spent a few hours on the phone with an old friend from high school, who happens to think Trump walks on water.

He was deaf to every fact I gave him. So to read a story like this, it helps me to know that kind, wonderful people are still out there, and that there's still hope for us.

18. What a wonderful story. Restores faith in humanity.

Some religious people say that doing good on earth is not what it's all about, and it doesn't help a person get into heaven. I don't believe that for a second, if there is a heaven (or whatever kind of heaven anyone may believe in or hope there is). It doesn't make sense that kindness and helping others and helping earth itself wouldn't have value.

A wonderful story about wonderful people.

Clint and Shelly indeed are angels. I would add, however, that it always is good to check with the VA, to see what they have to offer. The VA has built ramps for many Veterans.

43. I wish our common vocabulary were not so entrenched in religious terms.

I think your OP is great and the people who helped out are wonderful humans.

As an atheist of the more rabid variety, yes, I admit that, I wish we had terms in our common vocabulary that easily replaced terms like "angel" and "good Samaritan." I wish that the term atheist were not equated with negative and bad thoughts for so many.

I do not choose to be offended by the use of these terms because I know they convey the intended meaning of "kind, caring, wonderful human" in a single word. That people such as you do not have a religious intent and do not intend to call these wonderful humans supernatural beings.

I just wish for a world where people are not so entrenched in religion and the false promises of an afterlife.

In my personal opinion, the ills religion has forced upon humanity have far outweighed its value.

45. How I love this story.

Here in BC, medically-necessary ramps can be subsidized by the govt. I don't know if that's turned the mini-industry into a cash-heavy scam, but they are ridiculously expensive.

I offered to build one for my friend who had terminal cancer. but she opted to go with a specialist. This was 2008 or 2009, and it cost $3500. I mentioned this to a carpentercpntractpr I know, and his comment was "If you're building ramps and not making $1000 a day, there's something wrong."

It's so lovely to hear that your experience is the exact opposite. What great, great people!!!
