Out for a mountain bike ride around noon. I was chugging up a steep section of trail when I happened to notice a woman walking down the trail holding a leash. Well, nothing particularly interesting about that, except her dog was running ahead of her. Then I noticed who was on the other end of the leash. A Bengal cat! Now that's the kind of awesome weirdness that makes me want to ride my bike more often!
PS: Yes, she had to pull the cat out of the way. Evidently cats, no matter the size or coloring, behave as if the world belongs entirely to them.

(15,391 posts)Both are super sweet - the Bengal likes to play fetch, and the Sphinx puts out more heat than a space heater, which is great in Winter.

(9,273 posts)Tried that with several cats over the years. They would immediately flop on the ground and go limp. I dare you to DRAG me on this leash!

(948 posts)We started when he was about 6 months old...he's almost 18 months now and we can walk him on a leash anytime...
In fact, he gets at least 2-3 walks a day. He knows commands, such as "this way" - that means follow me, "up tree", he will climb a tree, and he knows "let's go home"...he will run to the back door of the house...
I should get this on video sometime...it really is amazing.

(29,277 posts)She loved it. Only problem was when shed suddenly dart off to the side to see something. I learned pretty quickly to be able to pivot and dart off a few yards along with her, just part of the flow

(9,535 posts)I had considered adopting one at one point and then read they can jump very high - tall enough to reach basically anything on our high shelves. At the time we had a Christmas tree just decorated when the cat came up for adoption, so decided to pass. But they are gorgeous and trainable to a point.

(17,984 posts)I guess a harness helps control them? Maybe they would refuse to walk otherwise?

ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)That's why the cats are really excited about the wheel. Without that incentive, they'd be like:
