My cat dragged in a live squirrel....

I have dealt with dead things...but never one that wasn't... I scooped the poor little guy up and put him in a secluded spot in the backyard. I have checked on him and took him some sunflower seeds, but I don't know what else to do. She didn't puncture his skin, but I am pretty sure his hind leg is sprained or broken.

I hope he makes it.

And I did the same as you - I put it outside and hoped it would be okay) after not seeing any obvious injuries. It flew away after about an hour. I hope the squirrel does the same!

See if there is a wildlife rehab center anywhere near you and call them for support. You may not need to take it to them, but they can advise you.

I scooped him up in a soft, old but clean towel...and placed him gently in a paper bag. The transport person is bringing a box, just in case and he is going to the County rehab center.

Yay!!!! (I hope)

They even take in wounded wolverines and moose.

Call your local animal shelter - they'll know where to refer you. Meanwhile, warmth and water.

Have found that the birds will sit quietly for about half an hour and then fly away - except the hummingbirds who go dormant while in the house then fly away the minute they are outside. Lizards and mice both scamper away pretty quick.

I've gotten pretty good at "indoor small critter rescue" and am sure my cat enjoys watching me chase them - though she knows she could do a better job.

What you've got is tough, sometimes they just need time. Hopefully an animal rescue can give you some advice.

teach me to hunt. When they figured out that "that dog won't hunt," they started leaving dead offerings on my doorstep (for my breakfast, I presume).

This was back in the 1990s.

the live ones cause lots of chaos. One of my cats brought in a 'dead' mouse. After it quit playing possum off it went leading a wild cat chase thru the house. Finally, one of our other cats cornered it and didn't attack it. He kept the terrified critter there until I could scoop it outside. Whew!

NOT outta spite, but outta fun.
She's a catch and release type kitty

Came home the other day, she had one in her mouth.
Began to walk towards me.
I told her, "Put that DOWN!"
She stopped
Looked at me
Dropped the bird
Bird flew away
The bombay didn't move, but gave me the worst stink eye you can imagine

Then she dragged in two more (she was very proud of herself). We placed them in a bucket in a quiet area until we figured what to do. After making telephone calls, we were assured they were large enough to be viable in the wild so we set them loose in the country.

Sometimes you just have to cut loose and let Mother Nature sort it out.

My right leg was wet. I figured one of my dogs had peed the bed. I turned on the light and two of my dogs had a dead rabbit laid across my leg and were happily munching away. In a way, I was glad that none of my dogs had peed in the bed.

The vet hospital where I used to take my dog was the place where they brought injured wildlife. I was there one day when a wildlife specialist came to pick up a litter of baby squirrels that had been treated there. They do good work.
