$1K reward for return of kitten stolen from Manhattan Petco store

A cat adoption group is offering $1,000 — no questions asked — for the safe return of a kitten snatched from a Manhattan pet store.

The 12-week-old kitty, Sage, was taken from KittyKind at the Petco Union Square on Friday at around 2 p.m., Valerie Vlasaty, a member of the organization’s board, told the Daily News.

She said Sage was stolen when KittyKind volunteers were away from the store. “A man broke the lock on the cage containing Sage and another kitten." She said a customer told store employees that she had seen the man snatch one of the kittens.

Vlasaty explained that New York City-based KittyKind has had an long-standing arrangement with Petco Union Square for their adoptable cats to be housed there. “They give us space and we like to think we get customers for them because people buy a carrier and food when they adopt.”

I can only hope that Sage is going to a good home.

After my 2 kittehs crossed the rainbow bridge, I decided to donate usable supplies (3 cat carriers, unused litter boxes, leftover litter, unopened cans of food) to the local Petco adoption center.

Once I handed the stuff over, I started to tear up (like I'm doing now), and I said that it was all so final now. The volunteer was a young man who was very nice and he hugged me.

Once in a while, I like to go into the local Petco and watch the dogs in the doggie day camp. It does them some good to have supervised play time with other dogs.

Are they that unqualified to adopt?? I sure hope that they get the kitten back, no one steals a kitten for any good reason.

I haven't seen kittens at my local PetCo in quite some time - and I always used to stop and look. But then I found my own kitten on my way home one night in a supermarket parking lot. And I did go back to PetCo for a carrier - he was not easy to catch! His name is Felix and that was 5 years ago this summer.
