Have you ever been in a "funk"?

Not depressed, really, just not...happy. Nothing is really funny, I don't feel like talking to people I know, there's nothing worth watching on TV, etc. I'm just sitting here like a lump. In a funk.

That's when my funk ends this year, anyway. It's a beautiful, sunny day and will be about 70. I'm heading to my favorite plant nursery to buy something new and interesting. I'll spend the rest of the day digging, raking, maybe planting some seeds, and listening to NPR. Then, it's time for a nice, cold scrumpy (hard cider) and a feeling of satisfaction.

I figure, for me, it's just a combination of my dislike for the holiday season and a case of seasonal affective disorder.

The most important thing is to get outside. Meet up with a friend or treat yourself to a nice cup of coffee at a different restaurant or coffeehouse. Do something nice for yourself, it doesn’t have to cost money. A nice bubble bath or listen to some new music on YouTube.
But celebrate yourself today, this is just a temporary feeling and today is going to be a little better!

probably has some to do with my sister who recently treated me like a doormat. But I think the news bothers me and I am also numb about things I should be caring about.

Well, at least you have some company here!

In the political sphere it is a permanent occurrence. No breaks in the crap. No moments of genuine respite. No upbeat to balance the constant downers.

Then the weird weather kicks in! Havoc on joints and muscles and moods. This year’s winter hibernation period has been less tranquil and more defensive.

And the loss of compassion and civility. The enabling of soulless “mean”, everywhere.

Funk is the perfect word of the current years!

It would be the rare person who does not at least occasionally drift into such a mood. Life can be hard, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops.

It often makes no sense when it occurs too, sometimes when things are going well. I feel lucky to be where I am but such is life.
