Paranormal Investigator Lorraine Warren Dies At 92

Monroe, Conn. (AP) -- World-wide paranormal investigator and author Lorraine Warren, whose decades of ghost-hunting cases with her late husband inspired such frightening films as "The Conjuring" series and "The Amityville Horror," died. She was 92.

Warren's son-in-law Tony Spera and grandson Chris McKinnell posted Friday on Facebook that Warren died in her sleep Thursday night at her Connecticut home.

The Warrens founded the New England Society for Psychic Research in Monroe, Connecticut, in 1952 to investigate suspected hauntings.

During their 61 years of marriage, Lorraine and Ed Warren investigated more than 10,000 cases in the U.S. and abroad, often writing about their experiences. Their unusual profession has been credited with sparking popular interest in the paranormal, as well as the television shows and films now dedicated to the subject.

"When nobody was really even talking about ghosts, they were just two people from Bridgeport, Connecticut, who came together and fell in love and Ed happened to have had a lot of paranormal instances when he was growing up and Lorraine was always the sensitive clairvoyant," said Larry Dwyer. He said the couple realized they could use their "gifts" and Catholic faith to help people who believed they were being tormented by ghosts or demons.

If they haven't experienced it, it doesn't exist. That's how I imagine they look at it. I can't explain this phenomenon any other way. The response to it is way out of proportion to it just being another topic for discussion.

The articles you cite are a little hard for me to take very seriously. I mean, really, Cracked Magazine? The Cracked article contains this phrase "Bill Murray kind as the shit-your-pants." I wince.

It might surprise you to know that there is a very large body of scientific study on what is commonly referred to as the paranormal. Many scientists, researchers, and even medical doctors think there is something there.

My point is that you gain nothing by scoffing and ridiculing the beliefs of others. It doesn't make you look smarter. It simply makes you look narrow minded.

You will probably go throughout your life with this mindset and that's just fine with me. I feel no need to convince you of anything other than that ridiculing people is unseemly.

One other thing you should know: You've either got it or you don't. Understanding this dimension of life is, in my opinion, via a trait or talent that one is born with. Just like musical talent, some people have it, some don't. You probably don't have that gift. Why not just accept your limitation gracefully instead of lashing out at people who do have that gift? Do you deride people who have innate gifts that you don't have? For example, do you scorn piano players because they can play the piano and you can't?

Con artists, preying on the gullible. Non-scientific. Hokum. Woo.

Anyone who believes in that nonsense is just as gullible.

It should be noted (as stated in the Medium article) that actual paranormal investigators use the scientific method, unlike the con artist Warrens.
