When you reach Larry King status then you should reconsider?

It's a time that seems nearly idyllic compared to what we have now.

Sure, the repukes were perfecting their ugly strategies for national dominance, and harrying Bill Clinton, who, for all his flaws, was a good President. But there still wasn't this day-to-day political nightmare we have now.

The music scene exploded with some of the best popular music since the 1960's.

We seemed to be settling in to a comfortable, forward-looking post-Cold War existence.

And so much more.

It's like a dream now.

Since Bush 2000 and 9/11, we are an uglier, angrier, less optimistic, less kind, less hospitable nation.

I don't know if we'll ever recover.
