I scored 11..don't know if that's good or bad
Liver and sourdough bread. It would be 3 if cilantro was on the list!!
snails and raisins... but to be fair, I've never had snails. I may like them.

(4,588 posts)but it's overwhelmingly sharp and strong, and it seems to coat my sinus cavities. After even a small taste of it, cilantro all I can taste and smell for a while. It's very unpleasant. The reaction is so strong I think I do have the gene.

I can eat grapefruit in a pinch if it has a boatload of sugar on it.

(3,975 posts)8 years ago in July they took my bowel out due to me eating good food all my life...fiber exploded me and I almost died. What is left of my bowel is like swiss cheese. I may not eat fiber, vegs fruit, nuts, seeds popcorn...I CAN eat yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed very well pots, and white pasta..and some meats...it is hell.....
If you remember when Patty Duke died a few years ago, she died of what I have..she didn't get to the hospital fast enough..
so when you have raspberries, or a gorgeous salad or popcorn enjoy it for me...It is hell, but better than being dead...

(62,444 posts)You would starve in my house.
It is a rare day that garlic and onions do not figure prominently in what's for dinner here.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)A few times, and I mean JUST to get some onion. I put onion in like almost everything I make for myself. Usually sauteed, but raw too in some things.
Garlic, I have a ton of it frozen for a pinch + it's so cheap and refrigerator friendly I'm rarely lacking for the fresh stuff to start with.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)....just to peel a head of garlic.
Sometimes it feels like I spend at least 10% of my life peeling garlic.
happybird
(4,588 posts)for peeling. You put a couple cloves in, roll it on the counter with a little pressure, and the skins come right off.

The mincing is what used bother me- until a chef friend told me to rub my fingers on the stainless steel interior of the sink as I was washing them. Takes the odor right off, it's pretty cool.

(2,768 posts)I have one of those medium sized pickle jars full with diced garlic in olive oil. Every 2 or so months course of a weekend I'll work on enough garlic to fill the jar. The olive oil seems to help keep it fresh and as a byproduct I get this nice garlic infused olive oil.

(33,643 posts)For example there is an identified gene that makes a certain % of people experience Cilantro as a very Soapy flavor. I'm glad I'm not one.
There's also one that makes people experience cucumber as intolerably bitter. Glad I'm not one of them either.
It'd be totally unsurprising to me if Onion were another of those foods ...

I've cut back considerably on quite a few of those. For instance, coconut is still a "once in a long while" food.

(62,444 posts)I have a mental block around that, since it somehow cross-referenced in my brain to the Hindu elephant god, Ganesh.
There was not a lot of middle eastern / mediterranean food around where I grew up and still live, and not a whole heck of a lot now, so I used to mix up stuff like babba ganoush and tabouleh (which took me a whole lot of googling to recall the name of). The only place we had for a long time was a Moroccan restaurant where it is a fixed menu in courses that they bring out so you never really have to order it from a menu in the first place. It was like, "uh, yeah, I'll have more of that layered thing with the chicken and powdered sugar..."
ProudLib72

I had never had it before, but I couldn't stop eating it. I didn't care what was in it. I didn't care what it was called. All I cared about was how good it was!

Stuff that is not worth eating - Nutella (not chocolatey enough), coconut (only if fresh, the dried stuff is horrid), and raisins (too gummy and they stick to my teeth).

No experience with tofu or snails. We never ate those in the bean-and-taters south, LOL. Raw fish sounds OK but I'm not willing to take the risk.

Tofu sounds a lot like grits. No flavor, but it will absorb the flavors of things around it. Tofu and gravy might be good.
Nutella - is that a thing, or just a fancy name for peanut butter?
