The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsLet's post rock songs that start out slow....
and eventually build up & end up really kicking it:
I'll start with two:
Rolling Stones: Midnight Rambler:
Second: Foghat: Slow Ride - extended version (a most under-rated song & band, imo!)
(OK - freebird goes without saying....just trying to be a little original here ~)

(19,385 posts)This one's got about four gears. Just like a 1970 SS Chevelle, which would be nice to be cruising down the highway in with this tune blaring out of the speakers.

(1,296 posts)towards the very end, I did detect more than a few licks reminiscent of Freebird...or the other way around. Slightly. Good one!

(50,011 posts)I wasn't really a huge fan of either Van Halen or Aztec Camera but I really liked that song. I probably still have a cassette of it somewhere.

(8,601 posts)Gentle Giant -- I Lost My Head
Starts out typical GG Medieval instrumentation and arrangement and then goes balls out halfway through.
Rush -- In the End
One of their best early songs, IMHO.
Van der Graaf Generator -- Man-Erg
The entire Pawn Hearts album is among the best in all of progressive rock. Very experimental and intense.

(1,296 posts)First one was like, meh - OK. (To be completely honest.) The second one, I was really grovin' on. Then - what the heck happened after 6:40? Went blank. Oh well, such is life I suppose...every here and there...
Flat-lining...then again - if you're privy to that in the first place...kind of, sort of, ya got a second chance - ya follow...if ya finally cross the finish line and make it to that next.... course!!!

Judas Priest - "Beyond the Realms of Death"

(8,601 posts)Alternative came along and brought me back to listening to current radio after top-40 took a massive shit along about 1988.
Too bad it didn't last beyond the late 90s, really.

(1,296 posts)Has some good points to it - but overall, I dunno....really, sort of, falls flat in the end.

(8,601 posts)I'm not sure how the hell I forgot it, honestly.
And the same can be said about 'We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions', although that one starts intense, then dips way down before another huge crescendo, so I'm not sure if it counts, but here it is anyway:

Little bit different as the slow, or more accurately mellow, part is in the middle.
Great choice BTW on "Loan Me A Dime" amerikat.
