(6,212 posts)it's wonderful you had her for 20 years but I know how much it hurts when they are gone. My condolences.

(72,300 posts)She always announced Mr. ITW's car when it turned onto our street.
This is going to be so hard for him.
Thank you

(2,533 posts)This has been a very bad year for anything of beauty-I'm being serious.
Lost 2 very fine feathered friends this year. Very special to me a Conure I had for almost 30 years & a parakeet that was just so sweet my heart really broke.
My condolences I'm so sorry.

(72,300 posts)Pookie's nickname was the Can-opener With Wings. She loved to be held but putting her down was tricky. She loved my husband so much that he could do anything with her.
My concern now is for the health of an indoor flock of Diamond Doves. Their home is also in the living room. Also for a beautiful 17 year old Blue & Gold Macaw who lives in my bedroom.
Our power went out for 3 hours overnight earlier this week. I think Miss Pookie caught a chill that night.

(3,424 posts)Birds are so smart, affectionate and funny. I bet Miss Pookie was a delight. Cockatoos are quite the characters.

(206,332 posts)What a beautiful bird - sounds like she had quite a personality! But she was so fortunate to have found you and all the love you gave her for so many years...

(72,300 posts)I want another small bird but I'm getting too old to bring another into our home. So, we are giving the extra love and attention to the creatures living in our home.

(33,039 posts)I realized that given my age & disabilities, I can't have a dog again. It's a wound that will lessen as time passes, you live with it, and time and you move on. ((ITW))

(72,300 posts)Is it possible to adopt an older small dog?
I'm too old to adopt another parrot.
Miss Pookie was adopted when she was 2 or 3 years old.
Nothing can replace the love we've lost this year.
I am thinking about adding a pair of parakeets to our family. A bit more chirping would be nice.

I made plans for their care when I pass, there will be a caretaker & money set aside for their care.

(206,332 posts)One of the vets I've seen specializes in birds (her license plate reads BIRDDR) so you may have connections. I adopt older dogs and they seem to find me. I know how much love you have to give and the creatures in your home are very lucky, my friend.

(72,300 posts)We have agreed to buy parakeets. The bar spacing is OK for budgies and larger birds.
I thought of calling the local ASPCA.
My search is on.

(42,001 posts)Theyre so smart and funny, truly family. I have a friend who has a cockatoo (Spike) who is the delight of their lives. They bought an RV so he can travel with them.
Im a bird person. Got it from my grandfather. Ive had quite a few over the years and have loved every one. May Miss Pookies memory stay with you always. ❤️
