Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsLaurie Metcalf on "The Conners" is brilliant.
Her frantic behavour in the kitchen, dealing with the (SPOILER ALERT)
loss of her sister, was nothing short of brilliant and hysterical.
There is simply no better actor, anywhere. What else can I say?
Mr. Goodman has lost quite a bit of weight and is as usual excellent. But I cant take my eyes off of Laurie anytime she is on screen.
Makes me want to go back and watch the earlier episodes, most would be for the first time.

(4,657 posts)When she finally breaks down in the kitchen, I surprised myself by getting misty-eyed.

(102,141 posts)be able to make it watchable. It is true that "Jackie's" frenetic reorganization efforts to stay "busy" and "connected" were a good way to have her dealing with the death. She's got a knack of dealing with dark issues with humor. No more than this old scene after the death of their Father:

Now my treat
maybe the best performance ever
yes, Louis CK Show but you must watch this

(9,886 posts)absolutely hysterical scenes from that show. Politics aside, I loved that show. Not as much for the blue collar ethos, but for the Boomers grow up and have to be the adults theme.
R: We were cool Dan, we used to be Dan and Roseanne, now we're [sneering] the Connors
D: Well I LIKE being the Connors

(26,251 posts)I never found Roseanne Barr funny. Actually found her voice to be too irritating for my ears. But I had watched some of the original 'Roseanne', back in the day, and LOVED the rest of the cast.
I really enjoyed last night's show. Some of it hit home - I lost two siblings and it's a pain that still hasn't eased.
Laurie is good, but Sara Gilbert was amazing. The casting of her, and Michael Fishman, carry the physical resemblance of Roseanne through to this new show. I really wasn't prepared to enjoy the show as much as I did.
Now, I'll definitely be tuning into this, and the reboot of Murphy Brown. They are actually the only "traditional" network shows I watch.

(13,912 posts)The actress that plays her resembles Sara Gilbert so much in my opinion.

(4,178 posts)bur Sara Gilbert's quick wit is the best of that show.

(8,445 posts)The actress who plays Sheldon Cooper's mother on Young Sheldon is Zoe Perry, who is Laurie Metcalf's daughter.
That's pretty cool.

(8,558 posts)That is really the genius casting. I think they're both brilliant, and love them in just about anything. I might actually try out The Connors now, lol!

(31,106 posts)And I am a str8t male and big fan of Kaeley, and guess what week it was we were there
Yep, the week she broke her leg and wasnt on set, the very first taping after the accident.
It is important the part of me being a str8t male cuz I really did want to see her in person
Sigh...
Laurie is considered to be one of the best actors in, well the world I guess. I am half assed in the business or know people and am active in theater and she is considered in the same vein as Streep by other actors.
All you have to do is watch that HORACE and PETE video I linked.
Met Jim Parsons at a SAG event right when the show was getting hot, VERY nice man.

(12,132 posts)and they just did some CG to make her look younger. My wife clued me in though lol.
Zoe is fantastic on Young Sheldon. So great I considered writing Laurie Metcalf a letter thanking her for not only making everything she is in better but also for making Zoe.

(8,445 posts)I think everyone is cast perfectly on Young Sheldon.
