The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTell me something encouraging. I'm looking for a bridge to jump off of.
Not really, and I'm not making light of people who have these genuine thoughts on a regular basis.
Just some good old Lounge encouragement would be nice...

To make it an even dozen, here are eleven more that I found on the Good News Network. There are plenty more stories.

Also, I plan to live another 50 or so years. The is my country and I'm much too much of a stubborn Irish lady to give up. The right wants people to be fearful, hateful and ignorant. They want us to give up. Fuck em. There are more good people in the world than bad. Hope and love are still alive.
Now, I'm going to make an appointment to give blood tomorrow. I feel the need to a little something to help someone.

Im sort of partial to the Passyunk Avenue bridge. Its not real high, but whatever is in the Schuykill River will definitely finish the job.

(33,579 posts)This is slightly less than all of the uranium already mined and doing nothing.
We could double the world's per capita average continuous power consumption, about 2500 watts (which is 1/4 of what the average American consumes), shut every oil well, close very coal mine, and every gas field, and power more than 7 billion human beings for centuries with this uranium.
Most people don't get it, I think, but as a scientist, hoping for smarter future generations, including some of the kids I know very well, I find this very encouraging.
I wish I could believe you would find this encouraging.
Life is very beautiful, but as I'm finding out, very short. Being alive is a tremendous privilege. I wish everyone could understand that as I do now, but apparently we can't. Once I couldn't, but I do now.
