Thank-you WRR-FM

When the TV gets too grim and and filled with dreadful political news about the latest Trump vulgarity, I turn of WRR-FM. An all classical music station, owned by the city of Dallas - commercial free. First licensed radio station in Texas and one of the first 5 licensed stations in America. Right now I'm listening to Barber's Adagio for strings. Before that, it was Tchaikovsky's Cello concerto. Not too bad, ehh?
It's so nice to know that there is still beauty in the world. It lifts my spirits. I hope you have a place of beauty in your life.

Are you a North Texan or are you streaming from afar? I have commercials when I listen from Fort Worth, from local businesses: carpet and air duct cleaning services, an arborist, a lawn care service, an A/C sales and service company and the horrid bickering siblings who appear to be doing some sort of PSA but are so irritating that I can't even remember what they are trying to say. At least we only have to put up with them in spring and summer; I have joined in more than one facebook rant about these kids.

WRR also keeps the community very well informed about all the arts activities in North Texas; I am aware of just about every stage production, special exhibit, concert or other arts event in any part of the Metroplex. I even won a pair of tickets to "The Mikado" when it was presented by the Fort Worth Opera.

There are long periods of commercial free music, including the Big One at 1 (a full symphony or other long work) hosted by my favorite announcer Amy Bishop.

Drawback: the Dallas City Council live meetings every other Wednesday. These can go on until the early evening.

If you are listening from outside the area, I'm glad you enjoy our great station!

So commercial free. Saturday morning has a financial investment program that hawks annuities. Sunday morning has Jesus preachers. I wish they carried the NY Met opera on Sat morning. But nope.

I really enjoyed the occasional classical music presentations one teacher gave us in early elementary school. It was probably the first music I really enjoyed before I turned to pop music.
