spent my last night of this last stretch on the AT at Chestnut Knob shelter... I would post pictures but my brother's video (Hawk on the Appalachian Trail) is much better at showing the area... I am back home for a few days to take care of a few responsibilities...
...a concern that not many people are paying attention to is a natural gas pipeline (Mountain Valley Pipeline) going across the AT in Southern Virginia... makes me cry... we fight the best ways we can... tree sitters at work while I was out there "WE WILL WIN"

(22,759 posts)a flip-flopper... I was NOBO in 2013 and now given my level of personal responsibilities, I need flexibility... roughly what I want to do is go NOBO from Pennsylvania to Katahdin and then go SOBO Harper's Ferry back to Springer but I take it day by day and take advantage of opportunity (was down in Southern Virginia to spend some time with my brother)
...will most likely call myself a section hiker and not redo the sections I've already done... Springer to Clingman's Dome - Harper's Ferry to almost Delaware Water Gap - Vermont - short stretches in New Hampshire

(16,334 posts)I can handle rain and I can handle cold but I hate the wind! I cannot sleep when it's windy and even walking through there I'd think something was going to fall on me at any moment.
He got some great shots. It's like we're there. I'd love to do this some day and my husband has talked about it but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get him to commit.
Thanks for sharing this. And for the info on the pipeline. We just can't be human without destroying everything around us.

(22,759 posts)hiking would be 40-50 degree days and 60 degree nights... won't happen but fun to think about... my partner is not a hiker but he supports me from afar
