(5,546 posts)You will regularly see dancing at least this good including hip-hop and contemporary both.
It is formatted as a competition like American Idol but the comparison is hardly adequate. American Idol is glorified karaoke where as SYTYCD has world class choreographers that create all new content especially for their contestants.
It always flabbergasted me that Dancing with the Stars has been so popular. Why would you watch amateurs when you can see genuine experts in their prime creating amazing new art.

(5,546 posts)These are mostly the group pieces from just last season. Most of the show is dancing in pairs but they always have a big group number. It will give you a good sampling.
If you get a chance, the show is definitely worth a watch.
If you want to go down the rabbit hole, there are 14 seasons worth of great performances on youtube. Great hiphop, tear inducing contemporary. Sometimes even some Indian, African and others.
New season comes on in June.

(4,527 posts)One of the things that sets SYTYCD apart from other reality/talent shows is that they give the underdogs a chance. You've got classically trained dancers with years of experience side by side with people who, while just as talented, have never taken a class. Also unlike many of the "talent" shows never ONCE have I seen the judges or the audience humiliate a contestant. On the contrary, they go out of their way to be kind and helpful.
