(4,723 posts)This is my current pet peeve. My boss will say something like "reach out to Janet, and see if she can help clear up this point of confusion." I hear other managers in the organization use this phrase too. It sounds overly dramatic in this context. When I think of how the term has been historically used, it is in a statement like "The Red Cross is reaching out to the community in the wake of the hurricane" or "The US is reaching out to its allies for support on the UN resolution."
In the everyday work environment, why not just say "call Janet" or "e-mail Janet?"

I know there are lots of other words used to hide reality.
