"There's Another Santa Claus" by Bob Rivers

There's another Santa Claus
There's another Santa Claus
There's another Santa Claus there
Everywhere you look you can't escape
There's Santas everywhere
Bells are ringing, children screaming
Something doesn't seem right
His beard is gray, that's a nice toupee
But his eyebrows ought to be white

There's another Santa Claus
There's another Santa Claus
There's another Santa Claus there
One at the mall and one in the window
Sitting in a velvet chair
Fat ones, skinny ones, tall ones, short ones
Cheeks so rosy and bright
That Christmas cheer smells a lot like beer
Call Santa Claus a cab tonight

Just saw Santa Claus
Just saw Santa Claus
Just gave a Santa Claus change
Drove downtown and a bell ringing Santa Claus
Hit me up again
When those sleigh bells jingle jangle
On my rooftop tonight
Will my chimney be backed up
With Santas all crammed in tight

There's another Santa Claus
There's another Santa Claus
There's another Santa Claus there
Everywhere you look you can't escape
There's Santas everywhere
Bells are ringing, children screaming
Something doesn't seem right
His beard is gray
That's a nice toupee
But his eyebrows ought to be white

"Old City Bar"

In an old city bar
That is never too far
From the places that gather
The dreams that have been

In the safety of night
With its old neon light
It beckons to strangers
And they always come in

And the snow it was falling
The neon was calling
The music was low
And the night
Christmas Eve

And here was the danger
That even with strangers
Inside of this night
It's easier to believe

Then the door opened wide
And a child came inside
That no one in the bar
Had seen there before

And he asked did we know
That outside in the snow
That someone was lost
Standing outside our door

Then the bartender gazed
Through the smoke and the haze
Through the window and ice
To a corner streetlight

Where standing alone
By a broken pay phone
Was a girl the child said
Could no longer get home

And the snow it was falling
The neon was calling
The bartender turned
And said, not that I care
But how would you know this?
The child said I've noticed
If one could be home
They'd be all ready there

Then the bartender came out from behind the bar
And in all of his life he was never that far
And he did something else that he thought no one saw
When he took all the cash from the register draw

Then he followed the child to the girl cross the street
And we watched from the bar as they started to speak
Then he called for a cab and he said J.F.K.
Put the girl in the cab and the cab drove away
And we saw in his hand
That the cash was all gone
From the light that she had wished upon

If you want to arrange it
This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this
Christmas thing last

By helping a neighbor
Or even a stranger
And to know who needs help
You need only just ask

Then he looked for the child
But the child wasn't there
Just the wind and the snow
Waltzing dreams through the air

So he walked back inside
Somehow different I think
For the rest of the night
No one paid for a drink

And the cynics will say
That some neighborhood kid
Wandered in on some bums
In the world where they hid

But they weren't there
So they couldn't see
By an old neon star
On that night, Christmas Eve

When the snow it was falling
The neon was calling
And in case you should wonder
In case you should care

Why we're on our own
Never went home
On that night of all nights
We were already there

2. Let There Be Peace on Earth
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 05:19 PM
Dec 2017

The version sung by Vince Gill and his young daughter is about a perfect as a song can get.

Lyrics
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be
With God as our father
Brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony
Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment
And live each moment
To take each moment
And live each moment
To take each moment
And live each moment
In peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth
Let there be peace on earth
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin
With me (me)
With me

3. Father Christmas by The Kinks
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 05:36 PM
Dec 2017

When I was small I believed in Santa Claus
Though I knew it was my dad
And I would hang up my stocking at Christmas
Open my presents and I'd be glad

But the last time I played Father Christmas
I stood outside a department store
A gang of kids came over and mugged me
And knocked my reindeer to the floor

They said
Father Christmas, give us some money
Don't mess around with those silly toys
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread so don't make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

Don't give my brother a Steve Austin outfit
Don't give my sister a cuddly toy
We don't want a jigsaw or monopoly money
We only want the real mccoy

Father Christmas, give us some money
We'll beat you up if you make us annoyed
Father Christmas, give us some money
Don't mess around with those silly toys

But give my daddy a job 'cause he needs one
He's got lots of mouths to feed
But if you've got one I'll have a machine gun
So I can scare all the kids on the street

Father Christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

Have yourself a merry merry Christmas
Have yourself a good time
But remember the kids who got nothin'
While you're drinkin' down your wine

Father Christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
Father Christmas, please hand it over
We'll beat you up so don't make us annoyed

Father Christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread so don't make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

I've been a big fan of The Kinks for decades, but I never before heard about this song.
(It was probably written by Ray Davies)

7. It Wasn't His Child
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 06:12 PM
Dec 2017

Tricia Yearwood

He was her man, she was his wife
And late one winter night,
He knelt by her
As she gave birth
But it wasn't his child,
It wasn't his child

Yet still he took him as his own
And as he watched him grow,
It brought him joy
But it wasn't his child
It wasn't his child

But like a father he was strong and kind
And I believe he did his best
It wasn't easy for him,
But he did all could,
His son was different from the rest
It wasn't his child,
It wasn't his child

And when the boy became a man
He took his father's hand
And soon the world
Would all know why
It wasn't his child,
It wasn't his child

But like a father he was strong and kind
And I believe he did his best
It wasn't easy for him,
But he did all could,
He grew up with his hands in wood
And he died with his hands in wood
He was god's child,
He was god's child

He was her man,
She was his wife
And late one winter night
He knelt by her
As she gave birth
But it wasn't his child,
It was god's child

Actually I always thought it was really a Father's Day song.

9. Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 06:25 PM
Dec 2017

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She'd been drinking too much egg nog,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she forgot her medication,
And she staggered through the door into the snow.

When they found her Christmas morning,
At the scene of the attack.
She had hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminating Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

10. "A Spaceman Came Traveling" by Chris De Burgh:
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 06:41 PM
Dec 2017

A spaceman came travelling on his ship from afar,
'Twas light years of time since his mission did start,
And over a village he halted his craft,
And it hung in the sky like a star, just like a star

He followed a light and came down to a shed,
Where a mother and child were lying there on a bed,
A bright light of silver shone round his head,
And he had the face of an angel, and they were afraid

Then the stranger spoke, he said "Do not fear,
I come from a planet a long way from here,
And I bring a message for mankind to hear,"
And suddenly the sweetest music filled the air

And it went La La
Peace and goodwill to all men, and love for the child

This lovely music went trembling through the ground,
And many were wakened on hearing that sound,
And travellers on the road, the village they found,
By the light of that ship in the sky, which shone all round

And just before dawn at the paling of the sky,
The stranger returned and said "Now I must fly,
When two thousand years of your time has gone by,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry"

And it went La La This song will begin once again
To a baby's cry
And it goes La La Peace and goodwill to all men, and
Love for the child

Oh the whole world is waiting, waiting to hear the song again,
There are thousands standing on the edge of the world,
And a star is moving somewhere, the time is nearly here,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry

11. I won't be home for Christmas
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 06:52 PM
Dec 2017

(Blink 182)

Outside the carolers start to sing
I can't descibe the joy they bring
'Cause joy is something they don't bring me
My girlfriend is by my side
From the roof are hanging sickles of ice
Their whiny voices get irritating
It's Christmas time again
So I stand with a dead smile on my face
Wondering how much of my time they'll waste
Oh God, I hate these Satan's helpers
And then I guess I must have snapped
Because I grabbed the baseball bat
And made them all run for shelter
It's Christmas time again
It's time to be nice to the people you can't stand
All year
I'm growing tired of all this Christmas cheer
You people scare me
Please stay away from my home
If you don't wanna get beat down
Just leave the presents and then leave me alone
Well, I guess it's not cool to freak on Christmas Eve
'Cause the cops came and arrested me
They had an unfair advantage
And even though the jail didn't have a tree
Christmas came a night early
'Cause a guy named bubba unwrapped my package
It's Christmas time again
It's time to be nice to the people you can't stand
All year
I'm growing tired of all this Christmas cheer
You people scare me
Please stay away from my home
If you don't wanna get beat down
Just leave the presents and then leave me alone
I won't be home, I won't be home for Christmas
I won't be home, I won't be home for Christmas

12. It's the most wonderful time of the year"
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 08:44 PM
Dec 2017

t's the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you be of good cheer
It's the most wonderful time of the year
It's the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It's the hap-happiest season of all
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of the
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of the
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It's the most wonderful time
Yes the most wonderful time
Oh the most wonderful time
Of the year

I always loved this song, as a nonreligious celebrator of Christmas. I loved Andy Williams voice and the way it always makes me feel.

13. "Peace on earth, Can It Be" the little song David Bowie sang
Wed Dec 20, 2017, 10:16 PM
Dec 2017

inside of Bing Crosby's "Little Drummer Boy"
Here are the words:

Peace on Earth, can it be
Years from now, perhaps we'll see
See the day of glory
See the day, when men of good will
Live in peace, live in peace again

Peace on Earth, can it be
Every child must be made aware
Every child must be made to care
Care enough for his fellow man
To give all the love that he can

I pray my wish will come true
For my child and your child too
He'll see the day of glory
See the day when men of good will
Live in peace, live in peace again

Peace on Earth, can it be
Can it be
