I stopped at a gas station in northern Mississippi and they had everything, sliced pickles, whole corn and a bunch of others too. I love the south.

(26,634 posts)Late sixties a friend invited me to thanksgiving dinner with several friends and friends of friends. About twenty of us altogether. Some of us brought weed which quickly went up in smoke. I called some providers, none of which could help us out. Our hostess said for Christs sake someone has got to have some pot!
A guest of a guest visiting from Costa Rica said I have pot! Someone asked him how much. He replied this much! using his hands to form a block about twelve inches square.
It was the best tasting thanksgiving meal Ive ever eaten!

Hot Dog Tater Tot Casserole Recipe
What could be more kid-friendly than a tater tot casserole? It's hard to beat the combination of crispy potatoes, savory meat, and melted cheese. This version of the recipe is made with hot dogs instead of ground beef. I also use sweet potato tater tots in this recipe, but feel free to use regular ones if you prefer.
I recommend horseradish mustard for this recipe. It sounds like it would be too spicy for the kids, but it's such a small amount so it just lends a background zippiness to this casserole. Use your own judgement. If your kids really prefer less spice in their foods, use the yellow mustard instead.
Tell me that the kids aren't going to down this.

Mmmmmmmmm.
That stuff in the OP looks pretty good. I think I could handle something that complex.
We're having a potluck at work next week. I'm afraid that if I bring in anything, it will make the newspapers.

(27,875 posts)but I'll bring the potato salad.
(I'm famous for my potato salad, among my friends)
Cooked but not over-cooked red potatoes, chopped up hard boiled eggs, black olives (Jumbo), chopped up dill pickles, and mayonnaise...topped with cut up green onions (Scallions)
(I NEVER buy potato salad from a deli)

My kids LOVE to remind me about my misadventure with key lime pie.
Kids: "Why did you do it?"
Me: "Cuz it was healthy"

(50,567 posts)Children, why did you stick your loving mother in a home?
Let us tell you about the tofu key lime pie...
I wonder tho...since tofu is effectively soy-milk cheese, how would a tofu cheesecake be?
LeftInTX
(25,618 posts)The key lime was a bit better.
When you think about it, it sounds good, but the kids hated it.
They wanted their beloved key lime pie, which was their treat. Tofu key lime pie wasn't bad, but it tasted more like a wholesome snack.
They resented their favorite desert being turned into a health food.

(54,448 posts)My wife's mom is going blind, so she runs up to her mom's town when she can, and that was Saturday, and I had to make my dinner myself. Fortunately, my wife is a master chef, and has taught me a thing or two. So, what I made was monkfish filets with scallops sautéed in olive oil with chopped onions and finely sliced garlic slivers, then lightly poached in white wine and lemon juice. Served with Swiss-style rösti on the side.

(50,567 posts)You will need:
#10 can of pork and beans
1-1/2 lb bacon, chopped into little pieces
3 cans Spam, diced and separated into two equal-size piles
1-1/2 lb hamburger
1 cup molasses
1 medium onion, diced very small
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons Tabasco
Salt and pepper
If you have liquid smoke, one teaspoon of same
Equipment needed: either a big crock pot, a massive casserole dish, or a Dutch oven that'll hold all of this. One sieve. (If you don't have one and need to buy it, it looks like a hemisphere made out of window screen with a handle on it.) One bowl to put the sieve in. Little bowls to hold the various ingredients as you prepare them.
Process:
1. Fry the bacon. When it is done, pour everything in the pan into the sieve. When it just sits there and drips, shake it until the bacon is completely dry. Put the bacon in a bowl and the grease back in the pan.
2. Fry the onion, the garlic and half the Spam in the bacon grease. ONLY half! Drain like you did the bacon.
3. Fry the hamburger, the liquid smoke if used, and 1 tablespoon Tabasco in the bacon grease. Drain.
4. Combine everything in the cooking vessel. Pour the bacon grease from the bowl into the empty bean can, and throw the can away.
5. Cook for an hour or two to let the flavors combine.
Does not serve as many people as you think it will.

(31,535 posts)That stuff is liquid gold where I come from. Potatoes and onions fried in a cast iron skillet with bacon grease is food for the gods.
OK, on a second read. I see you've adulterated it with Tabasco, so I'll let you slide this time.
jmowreader
(50,567 posts)It is bacon-spam-hamburger grease with heavy doses of onion, garlic, Tabasco and liquid smoke. If you make soap or biodiesel it would be worth saving; otherwise, its not worth it.
