Mrs. Pelosi was brilliant. She stole the podium, chastised the media (and by inference, Ms. Mitchell) and stayed on target. This is how a professional does business. This is how a leader leads.

Put me down as one who actually questioned whether she could lead the Party as Speaker of the House and who has found himself eating crow almost every day since she was elected to that role. She knows how the system works and how to work the system, and she also knows how to approach the unelected president -- by sarcastic clapping, by tearing up his speeches, and by calling him out in any and every face to face confrontation.

These are parlous times for the republic, but I take pleasure -- and we all should -- knowing that Trump languishes in the shadow of an African American president and a white mother of 5. It must be crushing to him and his fragile ego to know that the entire world understands how badly outmatched he is when compared to either Obama or Pelosi.
