on how preventable this tragedy was had we lived in a civilized nation where basic health care is available for everyone.

My adult daughter had a bout of strep late last month. She ran a fever over 103 for 3 days, but since she had health insurance with her job as a teacher she was able to go in, get diagnosed, and was given a course of Amoxicillin. Everything cleared up and she is fine. The idea that we could have lost her or she could have been permanently disabled had she not been able to afford basic health care like this young woman infuriates me.

What the f*ck is wrong with us??

Since she thought she had to tough it out to save money, it was not a choice she would have made
Voluntarily if she thought she had money to pay a doctor and the meds he would give her she wouldn't have lost fingers and toes to strep if she was not struggling to make ends meet already.

It was not an actual choice she would have chosen if she had options like enough money to go to the doctor,or decent insurance.
Had nothing to do with her lifestyle.
She was doing what she thought she had to do.

I'm just glad she survived it.
