And it's not surprising -- it's the Family, the C-Street evangelicals, who have persuaded him --- and themselves -- that God has selected Trump to lead us into glory (or at least to save us from our errant ways and lead us back to righteousness) -- just as He selected/chose King David. it's part of the screed of the Family that Jesus was not a soft hearted lover of poor people but, rather, a big muscle guy who kicked butt and wanted his true followers to kill for Him. It explains why such a lying philanderer, such a greedy narcissist as Trump could gather so many evangelical preachers around him. Those preachers do not care about Trump's peccadillos and crimes anymore than God cared that King David committed adultery with the wife of his best friend and then allowed that friend to be killed. "No big deal," says the Family, because King David, having been chosen by God, was not called upon to honor the general rules of ethics and morality that kept the Israelites walking the straight and narrow.

The organization laid low up until now, exerting its influence in the National Prayer Breakfast and other gatherings like it. And what influence! Every president since Ike has been a presider at the prayer breakfast. Most, I think, were just doing it for the political crew it gave them.
