BLITZED: NAZIS ON DRUGS- WWII Documentary

Covers the influence of drugs and Germany's pharmaceutical industry on society, the economy and the war effort from the late 19th c. to the Second World War.

The production of cocaine, heroin, morphine and other drugs was advanced in Germany as well as substitute drugs like methadone which were developed after Germany's industry was restricted by terms of the World War I Versailles Treaty.

The powerful stimulant drug Pervitin, (methamphetamine, 'speed') was widely used by the civilian population, the military especially during the intense 1940 'Blitzkrieg' military campaign, and also by the Fuhrer during the Second World War.

at the highest levels by Dr. Theodor Morell, 'Dr. Feelgood,' Hitler's personal physician. Morell treated the Fuhrer for stomach ailments, a need for energy with Pervitin and then sleep with narcotics, and various other health problems.

Hitler abstained from eating meat and using alcohol and tobacco, and he espoused 'clean living' while implementing strict policies that criminalized and incarcerated 'drug users.'

- Adolph Hitler's 'wonder doctor' Theodor Morrel

Wiki, Dr. Theodor Morell, Substances administered to Hitler: Morell kept a medical diary of the drugs, tonics, vitamins and other substances he administered to Hitler, usually by injection (up to 20 times per day) or in pill form. Most were commercial preparations, some were Morell's own mixes. Since some of these compounds are considered toxic, historians have speculated that Morell inadvertently contributed to Hitler's deteriorating health. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodor_Morell

* The fragmentary list (below) of some 74 substances (in 28 different mixtures) administered to Hitler include psychoactive drugs such as heroin as well as commercial poisons. Among the compounds, in alphabetical order, were:

1.Atropa belladonna (2–4 pills with every meal, for a total of 8-16 tablets a day, in Doktor Koster's Antigaspills, a compound also containing strychnine)
2.atropine (extract of seminal vesicles)
3.Brom-Nervacit (bromide, since August 1941 a spoonful almost every night, to counteract stimulation from methamphetamine and permit sleep)
4.caffeine
5.chamomile
6.cocaine and adrenaline (via eyedrops)
7.E. coli
8.enzymes
9.Eukodal or Eukodol (trade name for oxycodone)
10.Eupaverinum (papaverine, antispasmotic)
11.Glyconorm (metformin)
12.Methamphetamine (as Pervitin and Vitamultin)
13.morphine

taking drugs from what I've read and esp. if veins were shot. The 'ecoli' maybe was for Hitler's intestinal/stomach problems; Morrel also gave him probiotics for this problem. Quackery?

Thank you for the great info, appalachiablue.

Like many others, I had a vague idea that Hitler was a drug addict - but didn't realize to what extent.

All that no doubt exacerbated his already severe mental illness.

What Cheeto's excuse is, I have no idea.

and the toll of the many substances on the Fuhrer's health was extensive and clearly visible by 1944.

In 1943, Morell began giving the Fuhrer 'Eukodal,' (oxycodone?) a mixture of a heroin- like substance with Hitler's favorites, meth and cocaine-- all to try to provide energy and relaxation at the same time. Similar to a heroin and cocaine 'speedball.' (Pervitin- 'meth' was thought of as 'courage in a pill').

Eukodal was tested on suffering prisoners/'inmates' at Sachsenhausen concentration camp for the German Navy but was deemed ineffective when torpedo sailors that it was given to were sickened.

According to this film Morell also gave Hitler testosterone injections, and drugs to Ava Braun to suppress her menstrual cycle so that the pair could have an 'exciting sex life.'

Hitler's psychopathic personality was exacerbated by the load of drugs and his physical health destroyed by 1944-45.

> It's a good film and I like how they added comments at the end in the print script, that the British, US, Italian and other forces also used methamphetamine, and the main German manufacturer kept producing it until 1980. Wow.

Their strategy was known as "24-hour warfare." The result was exhaustion and a large drop in effectiveness. Meanwhile, the US conducted war like a 9 to 5 business, making sure troops were well-rested when possible. Of course that wasn't always possible on Guadalcanal, for example, where Japanese troops were operating on a 24-hour schedule.
