The Daily Show: Why "No Collusion" Doesn't Equal "No Obstruction" - Between the Scenes

Trevor chats between segments about "no collusion" vs. "no obstruction" and how the Mueller report is forcing Trump to learn things about the criminal justice system that black Americans are all too familiar with.

This never ceases to drive me nuts about us -- we seem determined to swallow about half of GOP propaganda in other to criticize the other half, and thus give away most of the game before we even start.

The report shows that there was PLENTY of "collusion"...but collusion isn't a crime. The crime is a further step, conspiracy to commit election fraud, and Mueller decided there was insufficient evidence to prove that beyond a reasonable doubt, because doing so would require him to show direct coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, not just "a wink and a nod" tacit consent with unofficial go-betweens.

But there was a whole volume of the report showing collusion. How many pages was that?

Roger Stone, etc ... hadn't engaged in conspiracy with Russia, he only knew what HE didn't do.

The exposure of which could've led to his, if not getting indicted, looking extremely bad in his position as the one 'responsible' for these people.

Additionally, he knew damn well he'd done something VERY shady around the Playmate and Porn Star, that he didn't want being discovered. He also knows he's committed all kinds of potentially illegal tax shit, insurance shit, bank shit, loan shit ... any of which could've come out if the investigation had spread.

So just because he wasn't indicted for ONE SPECiFIC THING ... that's fucking irrelevant. Esp. considering HE CAN'T BE INDICTED, per Mueller's understanding/FBI guidelines.

To me, this is the most serious of his hundreds of transgressions - the media keeps comparing this to Watergate, but no adversarial foreign power was involved then, and yet Nixon was removed from office. Trump has committed countless offenses, many we aren't even aware of yet, but we know that he was aware of the Russian interference which continues even today. We know now that Barr's "summary" was far from accurate and Congress needs to get to the bottom of everything that was done to influence the last election - and what they're still doing to influence the next one.

to his performance on helping to cover up Iran Contra.

These are just the things they are, and have been, getting away with in plain sight.

Can only imagine how much worse the truly hidden scruff is.

But I agree that they need to emphasize this very thing! It's been frustrating since the late night comedians (except for The Daily Show) are in repeats all this week and Bill Maher took the worst week possible to take off last Friday!

Trevor Noah is very funny - and really does "get" U.S. politics - but he does tend to get overshadowed by Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers who tend to be more serious in their comedic attacks on Trump.
