The Repubs have pitted white working class people against non-white working class people for a long time. These people have been lied to and used and have gotten little to nothing back from the Repubs. It is time for the Democratic Party to return to being the Party of ALL working class people.
AOC and her charisma help carry a progressive message to people who might not be Democrats, in addition to the Democratic base. This is a winning formula- Democrats, Progressives, and disgruntled working class people who might have voted Republican for social reasons (race, religion, culture). This is part of the power of the Progressive message: it appeals to all sorts of working people. These working class people are starting to wake up and realize that they have been used by the Repubs and gotten nothing in return.
For too long, working people have been getting scraps while the super-rich and the big corporations run off with all of the money. This is radical capitalism. We need democratic capitalism, where working people have job security, good pay and benefits, good education, health care, child care, etc.
These bread and butter issues should belong to the Dems, but for too long the Party has been corrupted by large donors and become led by Establishment Dems, instead of grassroots Dems and Progressives. Progressives like AOC should be the wave of the future for the Democratic Party. Progressive Policies should win at the ballot box.
The establishment might have the money, but we have the people and the numbers. I think that AOC and others like her can bring this real message to the South, to the Midwest, to anywhere in the country where people are working hard and getting little to nothing for it. This is a winning formula and the potential basis for a Progressive uprising of working people throughout the country.
