It's GOP-think to refuse to budge on hurtful laws and practices unless and until they affect one of their own, or themselves And when it does affect one of their own, they may change the law or practice, but only for their own.

Thus, abortion is evil, horrible, sinful, shameful, unless it's your daughter -- or, worse, it's your girl friend and you don't want your wife to find out.

Thus, also, for example, even though the marijuana laws in New Jersey were stringent at the time, and a new (Republican) Governor promised to make them even more stringent because of the destruction to morals and civilization, blah, blah, blah. But then his own son was busted for possession -- and suddenly he reversed himself out of a tender heart and merciful forgiveness and Christ etc.

And, of course, thus Ayn Rand, herself, gladly embraced coverage under Medicare in her dotage.

It's hypocrisy so sickening that only a Republican could stomach it.

"She became enthralled by a real-life American serial killer, William Edward Hickman, whose gruesome, sadistic dismemberment of 12-year-old girl named Marion Parker in 1927 shocked the nation. Rand filled her early notebooks with worshipful praise of Hickman. According to biographer Jennifer Burns, author of Goddess of the Market, Rand was so smitten with Hickman that she modeled her first literary creation -- Danny Renahan, the protagonist of her unfinished first novel, The Little Street -- on him." ttps://www.thoughtco.com/ayn-rand-sociopath-who-admired-serial-killer-3975225

What if everyone else did that (“that” could be throwing their garbage in the street, leaving their shoes in the kitchen, taking something that didn’t belong to them, etc.). The results would be horrible.

Now, going by this woman’s “convictions”, if everyone was like her (merciless except to those who earned her love) what a horrible place our world would be. Our world already has its share of selflish people, but it’s the selfless people that provide the hope and light.

I feel sad for her.
