This one is from 2011 and is dedicated to the earthquake and tsunami victims from the disaster earlier that year. A choral group from Sendai participates on the screen. Most of the 10,000 are amateurs. The Ode to Joy is very popular in Japan and you hear it a lot from Christmas to the New Year's.

(way outnumbering the poor orchestra) but that, given the slow speed of sound traveling, they seem to manage to keep it all in sync!

always leaves me an emotionally drained, blubbering mess. I am an atheist but this always raises the only doubt that I ever experience. If God exists, I view Beethoven's Ninth as the only evidence that he ever touched man.
