That's what I wanted! She has demonstrated an understand as to why so many were upset, even with old comments. She gave a full-throated, completely engaged, heart-felt apology.

I am good!

I never liked her before this for all the nasty crap she says (said) about Bernie and his supporters on twitter.

that being said. I have no interest in dwelling on this though i am wondering why she even had to apologize if she was hacked by the russians. her apology sort of contradicts that charge. which was it...her that wrote that or the russians?

And while I am not really a fan, this type of apology is miles better, and frankly, given what I saw here, her words demonstrate, no matter how long ago, those words MATTER, for that, I am appreciative.

"but I understand if people think I did" is not the same as, "I did it, I'm sorry".

She didn't lie and you are the one making up stuff with no clue of what you are talking about. She said "I have to own this" and that's a direct quote stated upfront at the beginning of her show! She said she has progressed over the years and apologized for her previous ignorance.

hacked? She apologized for what she did write; why should she apologize fro what she didn't? Unless, of course, you have irrefutable proof she's lying. If so, provide it, please.

One reason is....we don't get MSNBC here.

The right wing is busily digging into the past of every progressive, liberal and democratic, pundit, blogger, writer, and candidate and personality to expose more of this kind of thing no matter how long ago in an effort to undermine progressives. We must use moments like this as a teachable moment. To own up to past mistakes, apologize and explain that is no longer how we think. That we have reexamined and reconsidered what we thought and said and have matured and think and act differently now. This is something many right wingers expressly do not do, but liberals and progressives do do. That is the difference. Conservatives will double down. We will listen, think, and learn and hopefully grow, mature and change. That is the lesson that must be taught every time something like this comes up. Because you can be sure it will. There's an army of conservatives combing the archives to find anything that can be used against any liberal. The only way to fight back is to not deny but own up, apologize and show we no longer think that way.

As you may notice, I'm still angry that we allowed the right-wing to take down Franken. I see this campaign against Joy Reid as just another attempt at the same thing.

They will continue to dig through the background of every person on the left they despise and use this tactic over and over as long as we let it work.

It's up to us to stop it.

Seriously. We collectively took down Al Franken in a fiasco that we now know was a right-wing hit job.

If you don't see the same hands at work here in this instance you are not paying attention.

Al Franken was a thorn in their side. Joy Reid is a thorn in their side.

They did so well at getting rid of Al I feel pretty certain this is round two of that. I think it is long past time we stop aiding them in their efforts.

I'm 80 years old and if social media had been around when I was Joy's age, there would have been a lot of hurtful things said as I tried to reason through to the truth. The point is that we keep searching and trying to make this a better world. Tolerance and empathy goes a long way.
