I liked the very French, in-your-face way that Macron spoke of science, of global warming and saving our environment.

But the whole speech was just excellent.

Vive la France et les Etats Unis.

Just wonderful. It's a bit of a kick in the pants to Trump and the extremist Republicans, but so be it.

It's wonderful for once to hear the speech of a well educated, cultured person. We hear so little of that here.

I remember what a professor used to say: If it isn't clear, it isn't French.

Macron was very clear. Republicans have been put on notice.

Brains don't matter (obviously).
All that matters is the ownership of that party by the externals.

it seems as if i heard some sort of roars from the audience that were not necessarily shouts of hardy agreement? we know trump and his cult are xenophobes, nationalists, nazis, oligarchs or would be oligarchs. many do not imo share a reverence for the rule of law, democracy, history, the constitution, equality.

i hope this speech snaps some people out of their trump and greed induced comas and results in them fulfilling their oaths of office and representing the people for a change. that would be so good it would be historic.

i wish i wasn't feeling so pessimistic about it though. it's like every republican in congress is just as bent as destroying the country as trump is himself. as if they are just as compromised and beholden to putin as he is. i'm still shocked and constantly disgusted at their inertia in the face of the threats to everything that made this a country of, for and by the people.
