(205,140 posts)I remember Rachel giving the statistics - that the chances of accidentally shooting a family member or friend were so much greater than using a gun to defend against any intruder.

(25,841 posts)or in the purse, people tend to get shot. Oddly enough, in households or cars or purses without guns, people don't get shot. I wonder why that is.

(205,140 posts)Was on the HS rifle team. I was "second man," LOL. That's one skill I learned at the camp in Vermont. I was the first and only girl on the team at school, while the team at camp was only girls, it was a girls' camp. But someone like me, having experience with guns, takes them damn seriously. We had to learn specific rules and understand them before we ever picked up a gun - and there were no "accidents" on my watch. And because I understand handling a gun requires training, I am opposed to public ownership. I did shoot competitively, but I never had one at home and because I know what they can do, gun control is a big issue with me.
