John Oliver: SYRIA, Comey Interview
Many of Americas largest corporations shift a surprising portion of their profits overseas to avoid paying taxes. Even more surprisingly, thats a legal thing to do.

(205,320 posts)And it wasn't snow this time around - it was ice! It was little ice balls that kinda jingled when they hit the ground and everything is covered with ice now. It's been a horrible winter with so many snowstorms and now spring hasn't been much fun so far. Thank you, my friend, for the kind wishes - I only left the house this weekend to take my dog out.

(20,246 posts)That's the pits. Ice.
Not fond of snow anymore, but them ice storms send me into orbit. We suffered thru four days of no power one year's blizzard. Then two bad enough ice storms when I packed us up and made reservations at an 'inn'. I told husband he could stay back. Ima taking kitkat and we're splitsville. See ya later, bye! He came along.😆
He thinks it's adventuresome, akin to roughing it. No thank you!
The blizzard of '93 we burned wood we had, then 2X4's, some gorgeous white birch tree logs that really upset me [sentimental] and finally last resort helped ourselves to a neighbor's woodpile [he was out of town]. Whatta mess.
The guy next door [we were leasing a two story townhome] had a pipe bust in his dining area ceiling and all the sheetrock came down. After that I said never again. People in some areas where tons of trees fell were without power for weeks. I cannot abide.
There's no one 100% perfect place to live, I don't think.

(205,320 posts)We were living in Saratoga at the time - and we had no power - so we were sent to stay with my aunt and uncle in Albany while my father stayed behind. He was manager of the power company, so it was his job to somehow get power restored. I remember hearing that he slept on a table in his office.
Before leaving I remember sticking all my stuffed animals under my bed because all the trees were frozen to the roof and there was damage all over. We also had a puppy at the time, so of course she came with us. And my Dad got an award from the city for his efforts, but it was a nightmare while it lasted. I was scared.
This one fortunately isn't that bad, is supposed to change over to rain tomorrow, but then we're expecting high winds! At this point, I've completely given up on Spring here in the North Country...

(33,643 posts)life (50+ years) have I had anything like what you describe happen. Some of that's crazy.
There ARE places this sort of thing never happens is all I'm saying. Should think about moving.
Just sayin'

(205,320 posts)But I have to admit that this neverending winter has really tried my patience. We had four nor'easters in three weeks - and that was just last month! We do get snow, but this winter has broken all kinds of records. There were numerous times it reached 20-below! Anyone who doesn't think climate change is real should spend some time in eastern New York.
