bullying, mocking and insulting children, war heroes, minorities and disabled people? Bragging about yourself? Those Christian values? Wow, my Sunday school teacher must have got it all wrong.

...that featured the premise of Trump's "Christian Values" is basically secret code for "pro-abortion."

That's really what the evangelicals are looking for...if someone has all of the qualities you've listed but the House and Senate keep talking "pro-life," they get a free pass on everything else.

It's a strong possibility that this is what we're seeing here.

I have it on disc, listen to it in my car whenever I have to drive any distance. And he's completely baffled by the evangelical support for Republicans and the right-wing since so much of what they support is the antithesis of "Christian values." And, of course, this was written in 2014 - before the advent of Trump...

When I read that headline, I thought to myself: if God really did every see fit to 'raise up an unlikely person, championing Christian values in a way no other president has', that must have surely been Jimmy Carter.

If only more people would have taken notice. But then, that's the world.

Every year they have a huge fight. One side wants inclusion. They even want to get rid of the Southern name.

The other side is so right wing they dwell on Gays, abortion and love of guns. Trust me,I know. I left one because the old Pastor degenerated into those 3 things, plus hate of Obama. They lost half the Congregation before he left.

In this election they compared Trum to Churchill. Churchill drank but was a great Leader in the war.

Trump will never match 1% of what Churchill was.

I saw a very good article on this. Maybe even found it here on DU.

It made the argument that the evangelicals, Pentecostals and others we see with their nationalist and prosperity gospel ideologies are the descendants of the pro-slavery churches in the South. You may notice that most of these people are from the South or Southwest. From the former slave-states.

Back during slavery when the other denominations and churches finally admitted that owning other humans was wrong the Southern Baptists, in particular, found ways to keep on denying that. They had to come up with reasons why it was okay for whites to get rich off the labor of slaves. Hence, the prosperity gospel is born. God's reward is material things. Since they viewed slaves as just like livestock - material things - then that worked for them.

They had to come up with an explanation of why they were not really following Jesus' teachings with respect to the poor and those in need. So the made up the prosperity gospel. If you are worthy, God rewards you with material things. If you are unworthy then you are poor and therefore deserve to be poor and without help. It's your own fault.

This works tremendously well as a philosophy for all these people right now. Joel Osteen, Paula White-Cain, Creflo Dollar(irony is grand), the Grahams and Falwells - they all subscribe to this doctrine.

The pro-life stance is part of it. But I think their pro-life and anti-LGBTQ stances really have more to do with engaging the masses than they do with their honest beliefs. They have to have some rallying points to get all their Christian Soldiers to stand up and give, give, give to the ware against secularism.

Time and again we've seen these hypocrites being caught in homosexual affairs, drug use, and asking for their mistresses to abort their child conceived in the affair.

They are very much the "Do as I say, not as I do - and give, give, give to the cause" people. I loathe them all.

“Thou shalt not bear false witness” forbids: “1. Speaking falsely in any matter, lying, equivocating, and any way devising and designing to deceive our neighbor. 2. Speaking unjustly against our neighbor, to the prejudice of his reputation; and (which involves the guilty of both).

Matthew 7:15-20 King James Version (KJV)

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Even more than Jimmy Carter? What are these people talking about? Is this about gays and transgender people? Even on the issue of gays, Trump is all over the place. He claims to support gays, but he also claims to support those who oppose gays. He seems to be trying to please everyone.
