Why not pull over the Paranoid homeowner? Obviously a "difficult" day for this asshole officer

(57,063 posts)she got handcuffed because she didn't hand over her ID promptly. It was a learning experience. Next time a cop asks for ID do it without cussing and attitude. Police do have the right to ask for ID and we do have obligation to show it. I don't care for cops much, but that whole thing seemed pretty reasonable to me.
It had nothing at all to do with the Orange Shitgibbon, of whom I will enjoy bigly seeing the spectacle of him doing a perpwalk in handcuffs.

(57,063 posts)The police know who this "nameless person" is.
The police are required to determine how valid a report is and this cop followed through. Imagine your justifiable umbrage if the cop hadn't followed through on a citizen's report and that cyclist was riding away with your grandmothers SS check leaving her in a pool of blood in her kitchen? That happens.

(57,063 posts)name one jurisdiction where this is untrue and the SCOTUS has ruled so consistently any number of times over the years. What you seem to stand for is your presumed right to not proffer ID when asked, how do you feel about criminals' right to withhold ID????

(24,753 posts)There is no law that states you must present ID to a police officer in Oklahoma. Some states have laws requiring that you show ID upon demand or request, Oklahoma is not one of them.
If you don't know the law, you're far more likely to fall victim to unlawful conduct by the police.

http://www.fronterasdesk.org/content/9656/what-can-law-enforcement-ask-you-traffic-stopThis is a kinda Libertarian site so they tend to think like you do about cops, who I say again, I do not have very much sympathy for cops, though I am a Democrat with no particular love for Libertarians, either.

(24,753 posts)A traffic stop is being stopped for something involving traffic, as in an illegal turn, a taillight out, failure to stop for a signal, etc. This is not a traffic stop for legal purposes.

That is sufficient.
They require probable cause to compel you further. We do not live in Nazi Germany, and do not need to carry Paperz! with us everywhere.

No we do not have to show an ID
We have to if driving a motor vehicle. We do not have to provide an ID when walking or riding a Bicycle.

(24,688 posts)this BS of probable cause, is just fucked up. If you don't hand over driver license and tell the cop to take it out, then they have broken the law, only in fucking Oklahoma, I got a phone call of a suspicious person riding a bike, fucked up neighbor hood
FUCK YOU asshole, Take Care...............FUCK YOU

"We don't have to handcuff 99% of the people we stop." On the other hand, I think he enjoyed slapping the cuffs on.

(55 posts)I read somewhere years ago that if you don't carry your ID when riding, you're less likely to be ticketed. I think now I would give them only my name rank and serial number as one is required to do under the Geneva Convention when capture by the enemy.

Unless the PD around the country start taking some of these gross and flagrant dereliction of duty seriously they're being given the message that in this country, the gestapo is condoned.
Of course, if she had been riding a golf cart down the street (illegal in most places) and had a maga hat on, then she'd be waved on by.
