(51,432 posts)A friend of mine owned a record store and I was able to get a sealed new copy years after it first came out. I played it once to put it on tape and I'll have to play it again to make a digital copy. I was able to pick up a turntable that converts the played vinyl into mp3 and outputs to a computer. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet but, if it works as advertised, I have a lot of vinyl I'll be able to listen to again.

(51,432 posts)It's so much easier to just tape from a record or to dub from other tapes and make mixed ones. I can't afford to keep up with the newest tech recording systems and/or figure out how to do it in the first place. An old boyfriend also had a used record store and I have a nice little collection aided by him. Albums are so special for the art, the lyrics, the labels, etc. It seems like people fall into two groups. Those who appreciate that whole package and those who don't.

(85 posts)I have what was a high end recorder (35 yrs ago) and it was extremely convenient. I don't even know if you can still buy blank cassettes. The turntable/converter I got was not expensive and I'm looking forward to trying it out. Some of my vinyl records are new (I also have a cherry copy of Cream's Wheels of Fire). Some of them are old and not in great shape including things like Fats Waller 78s. Either way, I don't want to put them on a turntable so it has been years since I listened to them. I can try to let you know how I make out with the conversion if you like.
