Why do they state such things?

The last I heard the yield was on the order of 100 Ktons, that of a moderately large fission bomb.

Here's the deal.

Kim Jong Un claims he has a Star Wars Death Star. Do you believe him? Uhhhm! Let me think...

Also, somebody ought to fucking interview a seismologist about whether this was a fission bomb, or a fission-fusion bomb, because they each would have a unique seismic signature. That would be the science part of the investigative reportage.
