voted for some bozo. Or at least that is how it is justified in civics class. (That it was also a compromise to give slave-holding states more clout is often left unsaid except in college level courses).
Obviously, it failed this time around -- a reasonably moderate and sane and rational person won the popular vote by nearly 3 million, but the electoral college elected Caligula).
Yes, I understand the formula the electoral college follows... each state gets 2 electors plus 1 elector for each House of Representatives member. And except in Nebraska and Maine, each state gives all their electoral votes to the winner of the statewide popular vote (leaving aside the "faithless electors" issue and the details of various state laws).
Which results in smaller states having more clout on a per-capita basis than larger states. Thus giving Republicans an advantage (since large population states are mostly "blue" while small population states are mostly "red" .

And it's a no-win situation. Can you imagine what this country would be like now if the EC had voted to ignore the November results and not allow Trump to take office?

(199 posts)Trump had to pay out $25 million for defrauding 1,000s of Trump University students. And this is the guy they trust? That shows how strong racism is.
These are all low-information or misinformation voters. And they don't have a problem with Trump violating our Constitution with his business interests. They don't have a problem with his and his administration's connections to Russia.
But the real problem is Democrats. Until they learn how to define the narrative, they're going to continue to lose. They're terrible at messaging. They don't even need to lie, like Republicans do. Actually, all they need to do is tell the truth, and they won't even do that.

(1,002 posts)The ignorance of all too many of the American people is appalling. How do you "define the narrative" for Forrest Gump? OK, children - politicians are like a box of chocolates only some of the chocolates are actually dog turds.
