Earth at night seen from space ISS
All images used in this video were taken by the astronauts of Expedition 29 (Commander Mike Fossum, Flight Engineer Dan Burbank, Flight Engineers Satoshi Furukawa, Sergei Volkov, Anatoly Ivanishin and Anton Shkaplerov) aboard the International Space Station. ISS altitude is about 350 kilometers above Earth surface.
A trip around the world in the hours of darkness with views of the aurora borealis and clouds. And all those city lights makes one realize how large our presence on this globe is, how interconnected we all are. I have mixed feelings about this as others had. Here are some of the comments, which I've placed in order:
As in, I literally cannot watch this in the highest resolution without tearing up a little and being overcome with sheer beauty of our planet and how absolutely amazing it is that we have something falling up there taking these pictures. It's things like these that make me proud to be a human and joyful to live in this beautiful universe on this brilliant, mad, stupid, wonderful little blue marble. Nerdule
I suppose if the Earth was paved you would have an erection? What a fucking idiot you are. This is a video of a dying planet, dumb ass. The lights are a sign of infestation. demonorse
There is A LOT of natural destruction in this video - good point. MrBlueSkyMrNight
i hear insulting others makes the world a better place too. MrSammylamigus
What would be appropriate? How should one communicate with people such as this? I looked at this video expecting a discussion on overpopulation/ deforestation/ light pollution and what I find are people slapping each other on the back and congratulating ourselves on the fine job we have done despoiling the planet and completly divorcing ourselves from the natural world. IT'S A MADHOUSE AND YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS!!! demonorse
And so it goes.

Flying was a lot more pleasant 30 years ago.
