Related: About this forumWhat Does "Retroactively Retired" Mean?
The latest tweak by Team Obama is a web video of man-on-the-street interviews asking people what they think it means to "retroactively retire," the phraseology that Romney campaign strategist Ed Gillespie used to explain why Romney was listed as the sole owner of Bain Capital in company filings during a period when the former Massachusetts governor said he was not active with the private equity firm.
The first couple of interviewees seem puzzled by the term. A third man suggests that perhaps it means you're retired bit working. And then finally, the fourth interviewee, zeros in on the Team Obama message.
"He retired himself before something terrible he did happened," the fourth interviewee says. "You know something bad happens and you say, 'Oh, that shouldn't have happened. Yeah, I'm going to go back and say I wasn't there.'"
The video then goes on to list two Bain companies that outsourced jobs overseas, and three that went bankrupt between 1999-2001. Romney has said took a leave of absence in February 1999 to run the Salt Lake City Olympics, but he never returned to the firm.

His reasoning sounds like the idea a bulimic might have regarding having their cake and eating it too.
