Related: About this forumPoll: A Majority of Americans Support Bernie’s Healthcare Model
A new poll has some pretty bad news for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. According to the poll, 58% of American citizens support a single-payer Medicare-for-all healthcare system. Isn't this what Bernie Sanders has been promoting all along? Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

(54,770 posts)I believe a Public Option gets us there much faster. As long as we have to cram an all-or-nothing plan down those 40+% and probably 60% of Congress, it will never happen. But, give people options -- including a Public Option -- and, if we are right that public financed health care is better, people will gravitate to it quickly. Otherwise, we run the risk of a cruddy GOPer voucher system.
I'll also bet even more will not support it, when people find out the increase in taxes required for single payer -- no matter how hard one tries to explain there will be no premiums -- and other realities, like it's unlikely even single-payer would save enough to do away with co-pays, deductibles, provide dental/eye/hearing coverage, required utilization controls, etc.
Single Payer is likely the best option -- although even many European countries don't do single payer -- but, like Vermont, people will likely not accept it as easily as some believe.

(50,983 posts)The Democratic Party decided on a nominee before the primary process even started. They were determined to support that candidate and did every unfair thing they could imagine to help her along.
The media establishment did everything in their power to denigrate Bernie right from the very start. That is, if they said a single word about him it was negative. This process continues.
In primary after primary there have been persistent rumors of inconsistencies. These inconsistencies always seem to favor the establishment candidate.
Otherwise Bernie would be way way the fuck ahead.
