When Clinton folks start to complain about 'tone' or 'bringing Democrats together', perhaps they need to revisit a little history. Just ask Barack Obama. "Hillary Clinton. Shell say anything, and change nothing. Its time to turn the page."
_______
The Hillary Campaign sure set a high bar for 'tone' (pathetic):
Campaign against Obama: "MAKE HIM UN-AMERICAN"

(38,613 posts)"Hillary gives a different opinion on the same subjects every couple of weeks depending on her audience and what she thinks it will net her. As evidence of this is now coming out and is going to be presented to the American people in the starkest terms, how can one be expected to trust her to do anything that she says she is going to do?
How can one really know what she believes or intends to do about anything? The only things Hillary's experience seems to be good for is perfecting how to talk out of both sides of her mouth, engaging in the politics of personal destruction and other aspects of her ruthless pursuit of power that remind one of what a Karl Rove might do.
That kind of person ought not to be the Democratic nominee."

What is true of Hillary Clinton is, after eight years in office, now true of Barack Obama.
He could re-issue this very critique in the first person.

If we get fooled a second time, it's truly our fault for all the shit we'll suffer for four years (or until impeachment). There's SO MANY things she's plucked from Bernie's agenda so far - ALL of which will succumb to amnesia the moment she takes the oath!
I hadn't thought about it until just now, but ol' McConnell's gotta be hopin' he gets to work with Hillary rather than Dump.

(320 posts)It is not well past the point and has been for the last month past the point, where anyone who is honest with themselves can say that Hillary Clinton will not be the candidate. I do not know anything about you, tomm2thumbs, but I will take Hillary Clinton any
day over the alternative. Donald Trump is an immense threat to this nation. In fact, any Republican is. Therefore, I urge you to take down your post. I urge you to not even think the way you are thinking. All politicians say things that they change later. I LOVER Barack Obama but he has said things that he has changed. He did say everyone could keep the doctor they had before the ACA. Do I blame him for that? Not one bit. The reality of Hillary Clinton is that she is far and away the most experienced candidate running. She also has a marvelous record of being able to work with the opposite side of the isle. The has accumulated a TON of baggage in the 25 years she has been in government. I suspect she will be a very good, maybe great, President. Let's do everything we can to see that she gets the chance. The alternative is not pretty.

(109,024 posts)Trump is a big blowhard from who no one expects any common sense or meaningful dialogue. He is like watching a 5th grader saying 'na na na na na' to everyone sometimes and bullying the other kids the rest of the time. His agenda is non-existent and he'll take our jobs economy further into the sub minimum wage level. His answer will be we can work at his Hotels for $2 an hour plus tips. I predict he will end up letting the Repugs dictate the destruction of Social Security and Medicare because that's what they like to do. He'll trash foreign relations just like dubya did. Finally, he'll let the Repug congress do what he can to trash any gains in civil rights from the last 50 years.
That about covers it for me. Add more if you like.

(582 posts)get the nomination and win the GE, she'll be the President that presides over the collapse of the Democratic Party. She is the living embodiment of the status quo, when the status quo has finally become completely unsustainable. The status quo is OVER. Has no one noticed that large swaths of the rank-and-file of both parties are in open revolt against their respective establishments? The party's over. The Democratic Party needs a safety valve, and Hillary Clinton ain't it. If she becomes President, you can look forward to four more years of endless wars, shitty job-killing trade agreements, Wall Street continuing to run riot, nothing done to address climate change or the shitty broken health care system or income inequality; and by the end of her first term the Democratic Party will be in the same state by 2020 that the Republican Party's in now.

(7,475 posts)I truly believe that another Clinton administration will bring us no change from the status quo. It is my opinion that we, as a country, cannot continue on our current path. The enthusiasm and commitment of Bernie Sanders and his supporters gives me hope that something in our future will be positive. I know the Hillary fans will disagree with me but what else is the primary for? It is to express our preferences and opinions.
Win or lose, it Sanders for me. I am an old timer and have seen and heard it all since the 1960's.
No more same-old for me. We need to find another direction. I do not see any change with Hillary. I see no real platform, no real opportunity for us to progress. Nothing that interests me.
Sorry to my good friends who support Hillary. I just can't do it. Too many questions, not enough answers.

(19,581 posts)Obama hasn't been the status quo. And, the alternative is Trump-come on , he is the status quo. As disappointing as it maybe for you, Sander's can not over come Clinton's lead. And, a majority of Democrats voted for her. They all can not be wrong. I ask you to give her a chance.

(5,621 posts)ACA gave a windfall to the insurance companies, which was only the beginning. Then let's look at the TPP..........
The only reason that Clinton is in the lead is because people didn't get to know Bernie, and the DNC did everything in their power to make sure they never did. Wasn't Kentucky a wake up call? She barely won. If all those primaries would be run again today, I would bet that Bernie would either win them all or close pretty close to it.

(19,581 posts)It speaks well of both Clinton and Obama that they came together as Democrats and moved pass the primary. Clinton endorsed Obama and he asked her to be his Secretary of State. I am hoping that our current primary ends as amicable and we can make more progress as Democrats-together.

(13,297 posts)On even just one issue as an example, Hillary Clinton didn't declare her support for same-sex marriage until 2013, whereas Obama, even while in office, did so in 2012 and hinted support even earlier. Bernie has been there from much before it was convenient to do so, voting against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) passed by Congress in 1996.
Regarding other stuff, yes, Obama hasn't always hit the highest-height of every mark, but this link from CBS News helps:

(15,677 posts)Hillary is a weak candidate ... and is dragging the Democratic Party to its own demise w/DWS's help.
Stonepounder
(4,033 posts)is the perception that Hillary was chosen to be the candidate by the DNC long before the primaries started and the DNC really doesn't care what the voters want, they want Hillary to be the Presidential nominee.
Whether this is actually true or not, that is the perception of many Bernie supporters. Every time Bernie wins a primary we hear a great outpouring about how he didn't really win because ... because it was close so he didn't narrow Hillary's lead ... because even though he won decisively he didn't actually gain on Hillary because of the superdelegates ... because even though he won he can't possibly win enough delegates ... and on and on.
We are the Democratic party. Work to insure the primaries are not only fair, but appear fair. Don't have DWS sitting in her chairperson's chair mandating Hillary to be the annointed one and seeming to not really like the idea of having primaries in the first place. She seems to be of the opinion that the hoi polloi should simply bend down to the mandates of the rich and powerful, the ones who actually run the party.
And that, my friends, is why many Bernie supporters and feeling really burned.

(4,976 posts)It's sad when you feel it was rigged - even though that has been our party system for decades now. I lot of people didn't even know the process until they got involved in this election season. Then they look backwards and ask themselves how they might have prevented what is happening now. Don't know how much change is even possible at this point.
