That was back in the day when Drs didn't specialize so much and surgery was a lot of splaying people open and removing things.

Anyway, he retired about 8 years before he really wanted to (he enjoyed his work) because of specialization (he was a "general surgeon&quot ... but mainly because, (and I quote)

"I'm tired of being "in business" with the god damn insurance companies!"

And he was very conservative.
