Eugene, OR TV anchor fired for smoking marijuana. Now an activist.

I hope this hasn't already been posted. I cannot do searches.

She was tested on May 22 after getting in a minor fender bender while on assignment. The legalization of recreational marijuana in Oregon was approved in Nov 2014, but not effective till July 1. I can see why they fired her, but it's still important to get this message out to make sure this is legalized everywhere.

I wouldn't have fired her and don't understand why they did. Eugen, OR was voted the most progressive city in the country in 2014. Shouldn't their public personalities reflect that? OMG! She smoked pot some time within about 30 days or so! Oh, the shame!

Mike McClory, a labor and employment lawyer in Portland, said while the new law makes it legal for Oregonians 21 and older to consume, they can still be fired for doing it.

Her boss didn't want her fired. She was fired by a corporate attorney.

This needs to change.

That cannot use it...just saying, it's not for me for medical (I have no issue where I need it) nor recreational.

My job, non-government, is subject to random Federal drug and alcohol testing...my job is very important to me and I would not even consider jeopardizing it over pot.

And even those jobs that don't have a policy on pot one way or the other sure will administer that piss test right away if you get injured on the job in the hopes that any trace of pot will allow them to dismiss your workman's comp claim. After all, smoking a joint Friday night is certainly proof that you were stoned on Tuesday.

that doesn't change the fact that AA's are imprisoned for pot at a very high percentage and their lives are ruined over it. This has to stop. It is not a dangerous drug. It's far safer than alcohol.

a U of O football game. The town is progressive but the media is still controlled by fairly conservative people.
