This fall, students in Texas are going to begin using history books that paint a very different picture for southern America. One of the primary alterations the revised books make is that the issue of slavery during the Civil War was only a side issue. The books also omit the history of the Ku Klux Klan and Jim Crow laws, effectively eliminating the history of racism from the American South.
Ring of Fire's Mike Papantonio appears on The Big Picture with Thom Hartmann to discuss this.

(6,283 posts)So if your tired of it, why don't you go somewhere else. I hear Canada is nice, and you won't have to subsidize us any more. But you won't do that because then there wouldn't be anyone to feed your own sense of superiority over those Americans you deem unfit by your standards. And what about all the POC who would suffer if you and your so called liberal brethren had your way? What a piece of work. The so called elite 1%ers don't have anything on you.

(1,648 posts)Taken the opposite flag position than the majority wanted just days ago? No, even though I get frustrated with so much talk of hatred and racism, the battle for hearts and souls goes forward, beyond that which many talking heads predict. Is this good ole American optimism? I guess it is, and I will continue it as long as my heart beats.
