...if it destroys it's own life support system, it's just a matter of time before it fails. Why did Rome fail? Not because of injustice or corruption, injustice and corruption are SOP for any hierarchical system above the tribal level.
Rome fell because it destroyed the ecology of it's food production system. Droughts ensued, and the rest is history.
Any intelligent system of economic distribution needs to put the protection of it's life support as it's number one priority. The system that does this will be the one that survives.
..and
The one paradigm that will destroy any economic system is that of unlimited growth. No life support system can handle an infinite amount of demand on itself, and that's where these systems all go wrong.
..and no economic theory has ever NOT had the idea of infinite growth or living within its means.

(23,867 posts)More and more I'm seeing people who get the notion of sustainability, not to mention dignity.
Thanks.

(12,471 posts)I was there, and it was an excellent seminar. The whole Left Forum is one of the best conferences I attend every year for about the past 10 years!
Thanks for both the Rick Wolff, and Chris Hedges videos!
Thank You!

(17,301 posts)I was discontented and annoyed with the simplistic and often useless work I had to do. And I was mid level management. I can't imagine how awful the hourly wage worker must feel.
Then I discovered Richard Wolff and I understood why.
His on line classes are so informative and easily understood.
I have changed my life and now work for myself. No one takes my labor or tells me what to do. I make a lot less money but I am much, much happier.
