"Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) host of The Young Turks discusses the lifting on the band of armor piercing rounds for AR-15 rifles nicknamed 'Green Tip'.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives released a statement recently that they are not moving forward with a proposed ban on armor piercing rounds for the AR-15. The ATF has received over eighty thousand comments and letters asking for the removal of a ban that had not even gone into effect yet but was still on the table for debate.
The National Rifle Association was the leader in this effort to keep the ammo on the market. The NRA officials took to twitter in celebration, championing law makers for listening when the people spoke."

(4,473 posts)But the NRA wants its people to be able to kill police. What else does one do with that ammunition? Can't use it for hunting, and it has no value in target shooting. No, it's for killing cops.

(5,417 posts)I agree with you that for hunting its not the best. I would use a heaver 5.56 round if I was hunting medium game.

(4,473 posts)There are far cheaper target rounds.
No, common sense did not prevail, and the NRA once more stands foursquare for making it easier to kill people.

(5,417 posts)And we should ban it because cheaper rounds are available for target shooting?
I think 556 is a fine round for hunting coyotees or wild boar.

(4,473 posts)To show that there is no need for these rounds for target shooting. In fact, there is exactly one use for these rounds that other rounds do not have: Killing cops.
And there is exactly one animal I would use a 5.56 mm round on: People. It was developed as a military weapon, and has no real use outside the military or police.

(5,417 posts)Several million rounds of M855 are sold per year, so if the round is only for killing cops I would expect at least 500,000 cops a year killed by the M855. Since I dont believe that to be true, the round must have a high defect rate.
I have 500 rounds of M855 at home, does that make me a menace to cops everywhere?
