Academic positions
Richard D. Wolff is Professor of Economics Emeritus, University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he taught economics from 1973 to 2008. He is currently a Visiting Professor in the Graduate Program in International Affairs of the New School University, New York City. He also teaches classes regularly at the Brecht Forum in Manhattan.
Earlier he taught economics at Yale University (1967-1969) and at the City College of the City University of New York (1969-1973). In 1994, he was a Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Paris (France), I (Sorbonne).
Education
BA in History from Harvard College (1963);
MA in Economics from Stanford University (1964);
MA in History from Yale University (1967); and a
PhD in Economics from Yale University (1969)

His 'cure' for capitalism should be a topic of discussion for anyone who is serious about not only our, but the world's economy and social structures.
The rule of oligarchic corporations needs to come to an end.

(57,936 posts)overthrow of the government. My sense, having heard him speak at a college near my home, is that he is suggesting that working people organize their own businesses and govern their businesses in a more democratic, self-directed manner.
I consider myself to be a capitalist, but I am aware that a lot of companies today are organized as partnerships and that it would be a rather simple matter to organize businesses of the future as partnerships in which all employees have more say than in traditional capitalist companies. I like that idea.
Farmers used to organize parts of their businesses very cooperatively. That would work in a lot of fields. And the legal forms of partnership or even a corporation (not a public corporation) could also be vehicles for putting Wolff's ideas into practice without changing the law that much.
