Well the fox news peoples not really known for their brain is they? and what they lack in brain - they make up in statements who is outrageous - and stupid to boot.. .. I do know about the gentleman who said Norway was not a real democracy - because of the lack of weapons on the police officers uniform - but really - we are a kingdom too - with a crown king and it all - but we also have a parliament with all the power - our king is just a head of state - and little else... As the lack of guns on the police officers is the same as a lack of democracy in a country ?

I know - whale meat is delicious - but I guess you would be crucified by some on this board - who is strictly against whaling in any form as it is...I learned that lesson a few years ago - that it is not vice to try explaining why some still hunt whales..... If you are not prepared to be castrated in some way.... A few of them even deleted me - so I can not answer them.... Oh well - I guess I will surive... Whale meat is rather expensive - and not easy to get your hands on - but if you do - and make it right - it is a meal fit for kings...

Never been to Newark Airport - or any of the other airports - other than in my Flight simulator that is - I'm not much of a traveler as it is - I usually got to cranky about the time difference - and to be honest - it is many other places who are on my mind other than the US....

Usually most of our airports is rather small, compared to many other places in the world - and possible also rather logical build - so it is les difficult to make a wrong turn when you are new in town - it help also that most of the airports have been renovated the last 10-15 years - and make rather comfortable... Even Oslo Airport Gardermoen - who was finished as it stand today - in 1998 - have been going true some rebuilding - to make room for more traffic - and it looks like it would be a rather nice airport when finished - almost double its pax numbers - and bee ready to grow for the next 10-15 years - as the terminal now in place did when it was new in 1998... (It repleased 2 smaller Aiport who had outgrown itself by the mid 1980s..

But did it-- 2 pieces of nigiri.

You airports that I was in were so-- light, airy, I think in Oslo some areas had oak wood floors, as I remember, comfortable seats....

On my return flight, my plane from trondheim was 20 minutes late and I only had 45 minutes anyway. Arrival gate in Olso was the last one on the domestic, end ( I am sure you know where I mean) and my NY flight was the last gate at the International end.
THAT was fun !.. I made it.. I was in economy PLUS..AND one of the flight attendants was the same woman who was on my EWR- OSL a week earlier. She even remembered me. What are the odds.

Anyway, really looking to my return.

I travel internationally maybe 10-12 times each year-- often Asia, ME, some to Europe... on business. but really the business is easy and I always enjoy and value the cultural, personal and FOODIE experiences.... I met my now ex-wife in Qingdao.
We are still good friends and I almost brought her to Trondheim with me...

I know - the airport in Oslo Gardermoen is rather fresh - and airly - with wood floors and oak too - it is a very nice airport - and have been rebuild the las couple of years - it is planned to be finished by 2017 if everything goes as planned - and will continue to make Oslo Airport Gardermoen - some to behold when you arrive there.. And I would say - I like it, the airport - is rather comfortable to use for the most part... One of the reasons it is used a lot of local woods and oaks - and stones - is because it was deiced the airport should be a getaway into Norway - it should represent the whole of Norway - and it should be shown in the use of how the building was made possible.. Therefore the use of woods floors and its like - because Norway do have a few acres of woods (In fact 50 percent of Norway is either rock or woods, or a combination of the two) and it was one of the most challenging undertaking when it was build in Norway - not at the scale made here in Gardermoen was it ever been tried to build so much in wood and stone alone... And i worked rather well.. Even if it was a challenge

I know what you mean - it is an interesting trip from Domestic - to the International - as it is in each end of the airport - and specially the hwy one gates is right at the tip of the airport It must have been a interesting walk/run for you being able to do it in just 45 min - specially as you have to go true the domestic - then in again into the international area - and then run as you have the devil on your back all the way down to the hwy gates.... I hope you had a comfortable seat to EWR...

Asian Airport tends to be rather nice compared to the rest of the world - but sometimes even here in Europe we manage to build airport who is comfortable - and Gardermoen was build to grow and the airport can be made bigger than it is today - as the time goes I guess... In fact - the airport started out as a training area for the Royal Guards - Garden - as the name show it - and it was even build a airstrip there right before World War Two - under most of the war it was occupied by the german Luftwaffe - who build it up to be a relative modern airport - at least at the time of the end of world war two - it was reclaimed by the army/air force - and a civilian site was build on site - even if it took some time to get any airport on the ground - as most of the buildings was either used by the army/air force - or was destroyed at the end of the war... But by 1948, when SAS was flying off the ground - even a modern airport was build at the site of the current airport - mostly as a airport who could be used if Fornebu (the then main airport for Oslo) was closed for any reason - but as time was going - the use of Gardermoen also started to change - and in the end more and more traffic was going true Gardermoen - specially as Fornebu was reaching its limits as it was build on a rather smallish iceland on the edge of Oslo (our capital) in the late 1980s - it was deiced that a new airport was needed - as Fornebu was clearly reaching its limits for flying to and from Oslo - and it was not longer possible to extend the runways anymore - the cost would be astronomical.. Even as the debate had been around for 40 or so years - and many places was seen as a possible place for the new main airport into Norway - it was in the end Gardermoen who was best suited for the new airport (even as some claim it was decided by a "junta" of the labor movement and party) And in the mid 1990 - the airport was closed - and then rep opened in november 1998 - as the brand new airport - and Fornebu closed as the main airport into Oslo... And the new Airport have some decent train connection - all the way down to Drammen - and from oslo to Gardermoen it will take you just 20 minutes - from downtown Oslo to the aiport...

Food is important to experience - even if some of the worlds food is rather challenging to eat to put it mildly - but it is interesting to se what type of food exist in different parts of the world.... As you might experienced with your whale meat - even if you was thinking twice about it....

That is good your ex wife and you still are on good terms - that in itself is something to keep in mind - that you still are good friends - Maybe you one day will take here with you to Trondheim - or to Norway - it is worth the trip - even if it is costly

The new section looks huge - and would possible make Gardermoen a rather interesting airport - but hopefully not that difficult to use - as it often do...

Norway have a few old city's one of our oldest city's is Tønsberg - today it is a rather smallish city - but it is the oldest registered city who still is a city in the whole of Norway - going back more than 1000 years - in fact going back to the viking era - it was made possible by a gentle harbor - and some trading routes who ended up where Tønsberg was made possible.. It even have a few old ruins from the middle ages - some fortresses and so one...

Good to know you are on good terms with your ex - and her husband - not bad been able to be on good terms with your ex that way

Chinese cosine is rather good - we have it here in Norway too - I know about a little place where they make chinese food rather good - the chef is not the best in speaking Norwegian - but he sure know how to cock

Against a guy so inebriated he could hardly stand? They certainly have to be wary, but they ultimately know that they can take him out any time the want/need to. But instead they act rationally, calmly and professionally, whereas there is little doubt it my mind a US cop would have tazed him and or shot him -- with some serious beating going on for good measure -- long before he ever was forced to lay down on the bench.

People from Lofoten - is little different than people form other places, somewhat rugged individuals - as Lofoten is it... But the funny part - it is in fact legal to call a police officer hestkuk - or horse cock - in the northern part of Norway - mostly because it is rather known that they tend have a more "colorfully" language up there than in the south of Norway.... (It is true - ten years ago some tried to get a conviction about the use of hestkuk in the Court - and it was deiced it was lawfully to use a more colorfully language up there - even if the boundaries between fair use and things that is seen as punishable is somewhat gray)

These officers clearly received some type of training our officers do not. So they received training.

Deescalation just isn't the way many American police officers like to handle things. Escalating things to devastating and potentially deadly consequences is more of their thing.

they speak to him, how calmly. No shouting, no cursing at him, no deliberate escalation of the situation. When he tries to hit or kick, they control him with as little force as possible, and even though he is kicking them, they never get angry, violent--*or even impolite* in the way they address him.

In the US, the cops would repeatedly chant, "Stop resisting arrest," in a monotone, while piling on in large numbers and beating him bloody"--or even to brain damage or death.

Notice, too, that even while dealng with an obnoxious, belligerent drunk, the cops are actually more concerned with *his* safety and well-being, assessing the situation carefully to determine whether he just needs to sleep it off, or whether he might need hospital care.

They are trying to "protect and serve" the citizens, even the one giving them so much crap, not trying to dominate and to exercise their power.

That is exactly the opposite of how our cops act, especially when dealing with anyone from a powerless or marginalized group--and, of course, double especially with PoC.

It is part of their basic training. What they are not taught is how not to lose their temper. They are not taught that it is their responsibility to respect the citizens they serve; all of the citizens, not just the ones who are polite to them, but all of them.

Somewhere they get the idea that citizens are supposed to respect them. I don't know why they think this is the case. They work for us. We do not work for them. They are the "public servants" and we are the public. What part of that is so hard for them to understand?

What a world of difference in professionalism!
Nobody got hurt.
An attempted assault on an officer was made and yet the officers expressed concern for the safety and well being of the citizen after the incident.
That is normal operating procedure.
What we see and hear about over and over again in the United States is nothing less than thuggery by our police.
If you are a police officer and resort to violence as a routine part of your process, then you need to find another line of work.
That video should be required viewing by all of our law enforcement personnel in the United States on their first day of training.
If they do not sign off on agreeing with that procedure, they should be shown the door right then and there.
I used to make eye contact acknowledgment with police officers on my casual encounters with them in the past but not any more.
I am ashamed of the way they treat my fellow citizens.

Police in Norway - seldom use violence - and if they have to use violence - to subdue a person - it is a dam good reason for doing so - not just because they wanted to make a statement about something... And even if they have to use some force, violence if you want it - it is no more than just enough to subdue a person of interest.. A few years ago I had some nabours who was less than good - a lot of substance misuse, drugs if you want - and a person who for a few days had been a pain in the ass - for everyone was walking around and being a menace for everyone really - the police had to came there more times than I wanted to count for this one person - in the end he had to be arrested - and he go one of his spits - angry, treating the police and was not working with the police at all... The officers (it was two of them) had to take the man to the ground - and did it effective - and with as little violence as human possible I think - one of them had to use his stick - to just hit the fellow in the back of the knees - on some muscles there - and the person was just hitting the Grass faster than a timber going down - he was handcuffed - and was escorted to the car - where hi again was making some fits - but then the two police officers just took him between them - and put him inside the car and told him to shut up and behave - as he was not allowed at the premises at the moment... And then the police drove away to the PD for him to cool down a little...
