(429 posts)We can't have this cancer back for another 6 years....He already told us how he's going to breakdown our country if he's elected. He needs to be punished for even thinking about what he plans to do!

(13 posts)She was serious and he was dismissive. He laughed most of it off. I dont understand how KY voters can stand him.

(3,544 posts)I wasn't really impressed by either one of them. Even less for McConnell. One thing I did like about Grimes is that we finally have a democrat with some balls. She calls it as she sees it.
However, McTurtle has to go. He had his time and failed miserably. He is one sided, hates Obama (and the democrats) and anything he(they) stand for, is bought and paid for by billionaires, and has a shitty record for the state, and the senate. I am also very, very concerned if McTurtle is elected as to what will happen to the country if the republicants get control.
It's time to move forward, not stay stagnant, or status quo. I would definitely take a chance with Grimes.
On Edit: I had the feeling that the moderator, who ever he was, was tipping the scales toward McConnell. I suspect he was republican. You could tell by his demeanor. I don't think he cared for Grimes at all. It was like he was throwing barbs at her.

(4,234 posts)I only saw the last part of the debate in real time, and the moderator allowed McC to talk about twice as much as Grimes during that time. It's true that the moderator brought up some facts that seemed to undercut McC's position but the longer you listen to a specious argument, the more reasonable it seems. I don't think the moderator was a Republican but he definitely allowed McC moretimethant Grimes. Grimes needed more face time, especially considering how good she looked up there.
But my gripe is that Democrats need to defend the ACA and the other proposals that are out there when the facts are so much in favor of them. The ACA is NOT a failure. It's true that insurance is rising but it's rising MUCH LESS THAN IT DID BEFORE THE ACA. Why not say that for God's sake? Why shilly-shally to try to avoid saying Obama's name like it's a curse word? If you don't want to use his name, then talk about the DEMOCRATS' ACA, the DEMOCRATS' minimum wage law, the DEMOCRATS' stimulus, etc. The American people are in favor of what these laws do. In KY as thru-out the country there are a lot of people who unconsciously are racist and you get nowhere getting them to think by calling them that. But it seems to me it would be easy as pie to get the facts out there. Why are Dems so reluctant to defend the DEMOCRATS' successes with FACTS?

(3,544 posts)My wife retired a few months ago. I am younger than her, and still unemployed, for over a year. Yes, the economy is still in the tank. We needed insurance and went the the ACA for assistance. Long story short. The plan we picked had a fairly high deductible for the major items. The plan cost 1240.00 a month, of which we are paying 555.00 out of pocket. That's not too bad for two people. Our scripts are cheaper than she had through work. Go figure. So I'd say its working for us, for now. I expect that our costs will be cheaper next year, if I am still unemployed. I'll report back after we do our taxes at the end of the year. I don't know what we would have done without the ACA. No one can afford 1200+ a month for insurance.

(12,882 posts), but we (wife and I) send Alison small donations as we can, and have so since she announced her run. McCONnell needs to be sent back to the coal mines he loves so well. I really appreciate her efforts and brassy challenging - I really do. But what I'd LOVE to ask her is WHY - every time Mitch yammers on about his willingness to work with Obama - she doesn't dump right on that ass hole, his publicly proclimated primary objective of obstructing ANYthing this president would try to do! That video snippet of Turtle making that mission statement from the floor of the US senate ought to be played each and every time this lying rube starts to babble on about how he's ready to work with the president or the houses to do good things for this nation. He should be made to answer for that declaration EACH and EVERY time he tries to paint himself as a rep for his state.

(16,916 posts)Cant watch the video till later...did Grimes blast Mitch? Could anyone score this for McConnell?
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)I would not say she blasted him. It was just the snippets. McConnell has years of experience in debates. She does not. It seemed she was there to support her hate ads on TV, more than address the points that matter to Kentucky and the country. I thought she could have done much better.
demwing
(16,916 posts)Right. thanks for your opinion.
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)Everyone in politics has hate ads. Did she lie in the ads? No? Were they full of glee and joy? No. She told it like it is. And yes, some of it was hateful. I don't have a problem with that. As a matter of fact, Wendy Davis's recent ad was pretty hateful too. But it was the truth, and I didn't see any problem with the ad. FAUX and ABC certainly did. Screw them.

(12,882 posts)So, laying out the abysmal record of your opponent is being ugly? Heh - I can't understand why she hasn't used the clip of Mitch standing on the Senate floor and declaring his party's singular goal was to obstruct anything President Obama tries to do. That clip should trump each and every ad McTurtle's cam-pain puts up. Would that be a "hate" response???
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)If this woman has the balls I think she has, putting the obstruction issue would have been first on my list. I think you may have misunderstood my original post. Putting up hate ads are OK by me, if they are truthful. But it seemed to me that was all she had in the debate. The moderator even made mention of them at the beginning. He was after the nuts and bolts behind what she stood for, and how she was going to accomplish her goals. I don't think she portrayed that very well.

(2,741 posts)proves his evilness every time he opens his mouth. Example: to approve the Keystone XL is to put a stamp of approval on the death and destruction of people and nature. This pipeline, to supply China with oil, is one of the worst ideas to come across Congress' agenda for many years. Yet this mental midget thinks the creation of a few jobs is worth the lives of people and animals. He is criminal.
