It's as pure as any message could be. The world is massively fucked up, but the message is pure and simple. STOP THE FUCKING VIOLENCE. Now, punch the hippie if you must - I can take a punch.

What a heart warming alternative view of what could be there... I hope that those kids in that chorus have held firm to the feelings they had singing that that day over the years! I'm sure they've felt challenged since then.

I always thought the hippies and the whole back to earth movement would come back. But, it seems materialism has proven stronger than Mother Nature.

Wasn't born until 1981 but this is one of my all-time favorite songs. RIP John Lennon.

It's sad that over 40 years after this song was released, we are still no closer to world peace than we were then. If anything, we are even farther from it. Maybe I'm being cynical but I don't think there will be true peace on earth until there are no longer any humans on it.
