Related: About this forumACLU - They Knew Our Secrets. One Year Later, We Know Theirs.
(Note: I know there is a big argument around this topic, but this is the ACLU which is unarguably an organization that has a voice that should be considered.)
One year ago, the world had never heard of Edward Snowden, and we knew very little about the breathtaking scope of U.S. government surveillance. One year later, we are in a very different place. Since the first Snowden disclosure was published on June 5, 2013, we have learned that our government is collecting colossal amounts of information about our communications, whereabouts, and relationships.
What we didnt know at this time last year is now at the heart of an unprecedented global debate a debate joined in full force by the American people, all three branches of the U.S. government, the technology industry, and the international community.
We know more than ever before about our governments mass surveillance apparatus. We now have the power to rein it in.

(1,648 posts)1. We have known of the whistle blower, Edward Snowden, for less than one year.
Just think of all we now know that we didn't a year ago. We owe it all to Edward and Glen Greenwall. Clapper lied to Congress. What are his consequences? (Crickets) In the last year the NSA continues to grow like a freaking Cancer...folks should we blame the messenger again? I don't think so! Wake up, name callers and realize that Mr. Snowden who literally put it all on the line, has safely shown lotsa light on our Governments Privacy Problems.

I would pardon him and award him the Presidential medal of freedom...but would wind up like JFK.
